According to German printing media reported on July 6, the first half of 2018 for the German printing and media economy, the business climate cast a shadow. The seasonally adjusted business climate index fell by 4.4% in June 2018 from the previous month to 98.1 points. The latest economic newsletter of the Federal Printing and Media Association shows that it is below the 5.9% level in the same month last year.

The printing and media companies surveyed by the Ifo Institute assessed their current business situation (seasonal adjustments), which was less positive than last month. Therefore, since the beginning of this year, the negative trends that have been visible and temporarily suspended in May have continued to emerge. At the same time, the company has lowered its previous expectations for optimism for the next six months. According to BVDM, the current and expected business situation determines the development of the business climate.
In June 2018, the seasonal adjustment index of the current business situation was 102.2 points lower than the previous month's value of 1.9%. Compared with the same month last year, the assessment of the economic situation fell by 1.7%. Although the current order stocks of printing and media companies are slightly more than last month, they are still not satisfied with the overall development of demand and production. In addition, the sales price situation seems to have intensified compared with the relatively moderate last month.
Despite this, companies are confident in the next three months – not only in terms of sales prices, but also in terms of production. However, for the next six months, business expectations have been generally lowered. The corresponding seasonally adjusted index decreased by 6.9% from the previous month to 94.3 points. Compared with the previous year's value, the index fell by 9.8%. Therefore, the printing and media economy is optimistic about the third quarter of 2018. However, print and media companies are skeptical in the fourth quarter, which is expected to be generally booming.
