Raw materials made in China, low price after mass production
Li Lingyu, general manager of Guangdong Juyi New Material Co., Ltd. told the reporter: "If the polyvinyl alcohol water-soluble bag is thrown into the sea, it will dissolve quickly and disappear in seawater, and finally it can be completely degraded into carbon dioxide and water by microorganisms, and will not cause 'white. Pollution'."
“The raw materials used to make polyvinyl alcohol water-soluble shopping bags were invented in China. It is one of the projects we have developed in cooperation with South China University of Technology. Now we work with Chilean companies to make shopping bags, we are responsible for production. At present, polyvinyl alcohol water-soluble bags have not yet been put into production. The bags used by Astete for demonstration are produced in Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province.

At present, the Chinese and Chilean companies have jointly submitted two invention patent applications for this new type of shopping bag to the State Intellectual Property Office of China, one of which simultaneously submitted the PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) international patent application.
“Since 2015, we have been optimizing the formula and reducing the cost. If the water-soluble bags are mass-produced like ordinary plastic bags, we can reach the price of ordinary plastic bags.” Li Lingyu said.
Astete plans to set up a plant in Chile and will start mass production at the end of this year and sell it globally.
“If the water-soluble bag is three or four times more expensive than the ordinary plastic bag, I believe that in the “plastic-limited” country, everyone will still not use it. Therefore, mass production and cost reduction will be achieved at the same price as ordinary plastic bags. Is the real solution," Astete said.
Not afraid of rainy days
In a country that is often raining, is it bad to take this shopping bag out of the supermarket?
“No! We can design products with different water-soluble temperatures, from about 25 degrees Celsius to 75 degrees Celsius to more than 90 degrees Celsius. In countries where it is often raining, you can use products that dissolve in hot water.” Li Lingyu answered .
Astete also showed two kinds of polyvinyl alcohol products to reporters. One appearance is consistent with ordinary plastic bags. It is soluble in water at room temperature and is used to replace plastic bags.
