In the Gray Working Space, we should set it according to the purpose of the corresponding grayscale image. For example, grayscale images for printing can be set according to the Dot Gain of the printing process, such as built-in DotGain 20% or DotGain 25%, and the user can also customize Custom Dot Gain. If the grayscale image is for display only, for example, a web image, it can be set according to the gamma of the display being used. For example, the average Mac machine has a Gamma value of 1.8.

Now Photoshop 6 can also make Spot Color's preview more accurate. We can choose Spot Color's Dot Gain to make the spot color display more accurate. But keep in mind that only one Dot Gain can be set here, so when the image has more than one spot color version, we can only make one of the spot color versions accurate.

How to set up Color Management Policies

Once you've set up Working Spaces, you should be aware of Color Management Policies. Basically we keep the U..S. Prepress Defaults settings. The main idea is to tell Photoshop what to do when the image we open is different if the ICC Profile of Embed is different from our Photoshop6 settings.

For example, when a four-color image is archived, Embed has a paper-based ICC Profile of the drafting company A, and in Photoshop6, I set the paper-based ICC profile of the drafting company B to CMYK's Working Space. Because of the difference, Photoshop Ask the user to make a choice when opening the image:

1. Is the ECM Profile (authorized company A) in the image used as the CMYK Working Space for this image (keeping the Lab and CMYK values the same, but seeing the color of the drafting company A).

2. Still change the color from the drafting company A to the current Working Space (ie, the drafting company B) (the same as the Lab value, the CMYK value will change, and the color of the drafting company B is seen).

3. Discard the ICC profile of Embed's drafting company A, without color management, but the displayed color is based on the current Working Space (printing company B).

Basically we should make different choices according to different situations. If we want to see the direct output of this image, we should choose the third one in the effect of drafting company B. And if you want to know the direct output of this image, you should choose the first one in the effect of the draft company A. If we want this image to be drafted by the drafting company B, but want to simulate the effect of the drafting company A, we should choose the second one.
