First, the type of folding machine
1. Knife folding machine. The folding mechanism of the knife folding machine presses the printing sheet into the middle of a pair of folding rollers which are relatively rotated by a folding knife, and then is fed out by the folding roller to complete a folding process. Commonly used knife folding machines are ZY102 type, ZY104 type full automatic knife folding machine, ZY202 type open knife folding machine.
The working principle of various types of knife folding machines is basically the same, as shown in Figure 2-8. When the folding machine is in operation, the sheet 2 is first separated by the paper feeding device, and the paper is moved forward by the conveyor belt 4; when the paper is longitudinally and laterally positioned, the folding knife 1 moves downward to press the paper into the relative rotation. In the gap between the folding rollers 3, the folding roller is fed out to complete the first folding. After cutting, the punched one-folded signature is sent to the second folding position by the conveyor belt, and then sent to the third and fourth folding positions to complete the work of two, three, and four folds. If different folding mechanisms and corresponding receiving devices are operated as needed, the signatures with different folding, folding numbers and different formats can be obtained.
2. Fence folding machine. The folding mechanism of the fence type folding machine uses the folding fence to cooperate with the relatively rotating folding roller and the baffle to complete the folding work. The grid type folding machine has only two types of split and four open, and the ZY201 type high speed folding machine is commonly used. According to the different requirements of the folding page, the number of folding devices of the folding type folding machine and the mutual position of the folding device can be changed, and the signatures of different folding methods can be folded out.

3. Plastic line hot stamping machine. The machine is equipped with a plastic line stamping device before the last fold of the knife or hybrid folding machine. That is, before the last fold in the folding machine, a special plastic wire is drawn out from the inside of the last crease of each signature, so that the plastic wire is formed at both ends, and is melted by electric heat. , glue the crease along the signature, and then make the last fold. In the 1970s, China developed a plastic line hot stamping machine, model TDZ101 plastic line hot-stamped full-knife folding machine. In addition, there are ZYD102A and ZYHD440 plastic line hot stamping machines. They are based on the ZY102A and ZYH440 (hybrid folding machine) plus a plastic line hot stamping device. Both models can be used for both hot folding and ordinary folding.
Second, the characteristics and selection of folding machine
In China's book printing enterprises, the folding equipment currently used mainly includes knife-type, fence-type and grid-knife hybrid folding machines. Due to their different structural and technical properties, the scope of use is also different.
The knife folding machine has a high folding precision, and the book folding pressure is practical, and the paper quality is relatively wide, and the thin and soft paper can also be folded. The machine is easy to operate, and when changing the folding method and specifications, it takes less time to adjust the machine. However, due to the inertia of the folding knife, the folding speed is low and the structure is complicated.
The knife-folding machine has two types, full and split, which are suitable for folding large-format sheets. For sheets printed on a full-sheet press, there is no need to cut after printing, and you can use the ZY103 or ZY104 full-knife folding machine to fold directly. It is possible to fold a full sheet or a split sheet of 40-100 g/m2 into two signatures of various specifications, and it is also possible to punch a signature by a flower wheel cutter between the third and fourth folding knives. Adapt to the needs of wireless glue binding. Single and double signatures for hardcover, paperback books and various publications for print shops.
The fence type folding machine has a small body, a small floor space, a plurality of folding methods, a fast folding speed, high production efficiency, convenient operation and simple maintenance. However, the width of the folding of the grid folding machine is the largest, and it is sensitive to the thickness, hardness and smoothness of the paper. When the paper having a denser and harder surface is folded, the accuracy of the folding is lowered due to the different deformation characteristics of the folding gusset in the folding fence. When folding a paper with a high smoothness, the degree of compaction of the crease is lowered, because the friction coefficient of the paper is small, and when a crease is formed between the folding rollers, a part of the pages inside the signature is squeezed out. Some pages outside the signature form a wedge at the crease.
The commonly used fence type folding machine is the ZY201 type folding machine. It is suitable for folding news sheets, glossy paper, letterpress paper, offset paper and coated paper below 50~120g/m2. It is automatically carried out from the paper feeding to the delivery process. It can be steplessly changed, and can be folded into four different folding signatures.
In order to fold a four-page publication or a lining, cover, sleeve, or piece of work, a small-sized fence-type folder is most suitable regardless of the batch size. The fence type small-folding machine can also be used for folding calendars and small-format prints.
The grid knife hybrid folding machine replaces the advantages of the knife type and the fence type folding machine to some extent. The folding sheet has a large format, and there is no special requirement for the degree of compaction of the paper, compared with the knife folding machine. Greatly improved production efficiency. At present, the folding machines produced abroad generally adopt a grid knife hybrid structure.
The split-blade hybrid folding machine is suitable for parallel folding, wrapping, vertical folding, etc., and can fold 16-open, 32-open and 32-open double-linked signatures. The four-fold folding machine can fold various printing papers of 40-120g/m2, fold the pages of books and publications, paper sheets used for various blank paper products, maps, design drawings, multi-fold inserts, etc. Suitable for medium and small book printing and binding factories.
At present, the folding machine is generally operated in a single machine. Due to its technological characteristics, the production efficiency is not as good as other binding equipment, so the linkage production with other binding machines has not yet been realized. However, with the development of printing machinery to large-scale and high-speed, in order to reduce the imbalance between printing and binding process, the folding machine should be directly connected with the printing machine to make printing and folding continuous, so as to facilitate the linkage production of the binding machinery.
