Define green ink

In a narrow sense, green ink refers to the use of raw materials that are almost harmless to the human body for the manufacture of ink. There is almost no pollution in the production and printing of ink, and it poses little harm to the environment of human production and living. Ink variety.

In a broad sense, green ink is a relatively environmentally friendly product, which contains the following three layers of meaning.

(1) It is necessary to significantly reduce the harmful components of the ink, mainly including reducing the content of aromatic hydrocarbons and ketones, reducing the content of heavy metals, and reducing other harmful components.

(2) It is necessary to significantly reduce the harm to the operator and the environment during the production and use of the ink, and improve the first-line production environment, while the energy consumed by the ink in the process of manufacture and use is not significantly increased.

(3) It is conducive to the recycling and disposal of packaging waste, and there should be no “secondary pollution”.

Although at this stage, the research and development of environmentally friendly inks in China is still subject to many factors, for the Chinese ink industry, the ultimate realization of the general green ink is its ultimate goal, and the manufacture and promotion of narrow green ink is the current development goal. And the ultimate pursuit.

Type of green ink

With the development of technology, people began to consider factors such as ease of use, cost of use, and environmental performance. What green inks are currently available on the market? Some of them are listed below.

Energy curing ink

Energy-curing inks polymerize monomers in the ink into polymers using UV light or accelerated high-energy electron beams (EB). At present, energy curing inks mainly include two types of UV inks and EB inks.

Compared with ordinary inks, the main advantages of energy-curing inks are: they do not contain VOCs that are harmful to the human body and the environment, do not pollute the environment, have a fast drying and curing speed, consume less energy, have a high density of cross-linking curing, and have a curing degree of 100. %, can be printed on a variety of substrates, with excellent mechanical properties and physical and chemical properties. Therefore, once the energy-curing ink is available, it is sought after by the market.

The UV ink is mainly composed of a prepolymer resin, a diluent monomer, a photoinitiator, a photosensitizer, a photosensitizer, a polymerization inhibitor, and a pigment. UV ink mainly includes offset UV ink, letterpress UV ink, gravure UV ink, screen printing UV ink, UV inkjet ink, UV printed circuit board ink and so on.

The environmental friendliness of UV inks is only a relatively common printing process, and there are also many problems.

(1) Some components in the UV ink come into contact with the skin, which may cause certain irritating effects and may even cause skin irritation.

(2) UV light has certain damage to the human body.

(3) The ink layer after curing is very difficult to be degraded due to the high density of cross-linking, and the ink slag is also difficult to handle.

To this end, people are actively developing water-based UV inks, and it is expected to solve the problems of the UV inks.

EB ink is a promising ink variety that can be used in web offset and flexographic printing. Compared with UV ink, it does not use photoinitiator, odorless, does not release ozone, does not require cold curing of heat source, is not affected by ink color during curing, cures more thoroughly, and the quality is more stable. However, the high cost of curing equipment for EB inks is the biggest obstacle in the promotion and application. At the same time, EB inks also have degradation problems after disposal.

At present, most of the inks used in gravure printing contain benzene solvents. Due to volatilization, the exhaust gas emitted by gravure printing is a big source of pollution in the packaging printing industry. Although water-based gravure inks have received attention as a substitute for solvent-based gravure inks and have high expectations, the aqueous process of gravure inks is still slow.
