With the growing voices of environmental protection in various countries, the printing industry in various countries is facing a lot of “green pressure”.
New vegetable oil ink
To change the printing suitability of vegetable oil inks, it is necessary to first change the chemical properties of the solvent (vegetable oil). A new vegetable oil has emerged in Europe, which is obtained by reacting a fatty acid obtained from soybean oil or linseed oil with an alcohol (methanol, ethanol and isobutanol). This vegetable oil and mineral oil have similar ink printing properties. At 23 ° C, its viscosity range is 3 ~ 15mPa · s, very close to mineral oil, can easily penetrate into the paper, which greatly increases the fixing speed of the ink. An equal amount of the solvent and mineral solvent made of the vegetable oil and fat were placed in an oven at 150 ° C, and it was found that the volatilization speeds of the two were almost the same. At the same time, the improved vegetable oil has a stronger ability to dissolve the resin than the mineral oil, so that the fixation speed, gloss and good ink balance are considered. These characteristics make the vegetable oil have a better choice than the mineral oil.
At present, this new type of vegetable oil can not completely replace the mineral oil as a solvent, but it can replace the mineral oil in the ink as a solvent, which can account for 40% to 50% of the solvent.
Application characteristics of new inks
1. Printability
Compared with mineral oil inks, for the same amount of water, vegetable oil inks are quick to react with water, stop adding water and have stable viscosity, and can recover quickly. Vegetable oil inks have a high rate of inhalation of water and a limited amount of absorption. In contrast, mineral oil inks showed a steady decrease in viscosity, stopped adding water, and the ink desorbed slowly and fluctuated. The use of vegetable oil inks can effectively prevent over-emulsification, density fluctuations and water bars.
2. Fixing speed
Due to its low viscosity, vegetable oil inks are fast-fixing on high-speed presses or low-speed presses, and can be quickly fixed on all coated papers. The use of mineral oil inks, even with dusting, is not as fast as vegetable oil inks, and usually takes 1 hour.
3. Wear resistance
Often, newspaper readers are often stained with ink by black when reading. This is because the ink on the substrate is easily wiped off after printing with conventional inks. Vegetable oil inks can solve this problem well. Its wear resistance is superior to mineral oil, because the fatty acid fat in vegetable oil contains unsaturated bonds, and the ink is easily printed on the material and then oxidized to form a conjunctiva, so that the ink is firmly on the printing material. The mineral oil ink, on the other hand, has a stable chemical property and does not react at all, making it difficult to conjunct the film.
4. Printing ink volume
Since vegetable oil inks can exhibit a more intense and brighter color effect, the amount of ink can be saved, the printing cost can be reduced, and the unit printing volume can be increased by 10% to 15%.
5. Light resistance, heat resistance
Vegetable oil inks have a much higher boiling point than petroleum volatiles. When heated by laser printers or copiers, they do not volatilize and stick to paper, nor contaminate machine parts.
6. Double-sided printing characteristics
Because of its excellent stability, compatibility, non-volatility and moderate viscosity, this new vegetable oil is especially suitable for double-sided printing. In the printing process, the newly printed side should be immediately turned over to contact the roller on the back side. To prevent the printed image from sticking to the roller, the ink fixing speed can neither be too fast nor cause smudging at the end of printing. But this new solvent system offers many benefits.
7. Environmental performance
Vegetable oil does not contain harmful organic substances such as aromatic polycyclic hydrocarbons. It is a non-toxic solvent that is good for human health and prevents air pollution.
In addition, it is found that vegetable oil ink is easier to remove ink than ordinary mineral oil ink when waste paper is recycled, and the fiber loss is small, and the residual oil of deoiled ink is more easily degraded than mineral oil ink (because plant oil can be naturally decomposed) It can be decomposed, but petroleum distillate is not.) This feature is very beneficial for waste paper recycling and drainage.
