The main reasons for hindering the water-based printing of the gravure ink are as follows.
(1) poor print quality
At present, water-based inks are not strong in adhesion and rubbing resistance to plastics, and printability is poor, and printing effects are not as good as solvent-based inks.
(2) poor drying
Water-based inks have poor drying properties, resulting in low printing speeds during printing, increased energy consumption and cost, the need to retrofit existing drying equipment, or the use of special printing presses suitable for aqueous gravure inks.
(3) The plate must be modified
In order to improve the drying property of the water-based gravure ink and to enhance the printing effect, it is necessary to reform the printing plate to achieve shallow printing.
At present, the water-based gravure ink is still in the process of research and development. Although it has been reported that the research and development is successful, it only stays at the laboratory level, and it still needs a process to realize industrialization. However, water-based gravure inks have been tried on some special substrates. If the above problem is solved, the water-based gravure ink can realize a wide range of applications.
Alcohol soluble ink
Solvent-based gravure inks are environmentally friendly while ensuring print performance and quality. Alcohol-soluble inks are the most likely variety, and they are also the focus of major ink manufacturers.
In addition, in the field of plastic flexible packaging printing, benzene-free inks are also very popular. At present, the main progress is polyurethane-based inks. Many companies have developed benzene-free or even ketone-free inks, which are suitable for the printing and printing requirements of plastic films. There are also alcohol-soluble inks made of special polyamide resin and polyvinyl butyral resin.
Environmentally friendly offset ink
Offset inks account for almost 50% of the market share in China, and environmentally friendly offset inks mainly have the following types.
(1) Vegetable oil-based offset printing ink
The use of lithographic inks has a long history. Vegetable oil-based offset inks are beginning to be favored by VOC emissions and their environmental impact. The American Soybean Oil Association has established a special certification standard for popularizing soybean oil inks. US soybean oil inks are gradually replacing ordinary offset inks and are widely used in commercial printing.
Soybean oil offset ink is the main variety of vegetable oil based offset inks. At present, many ink companies and research institutions in China are engaged in the research and manufacture of such inks, and vegetable oil-based offset printing inks have made progress, but there is no obvious advantage in the adaptability, product quality and sales price of high-speed printing.
(2) Non-aromatic offset printing ink
In Japan, ink manufacturers are almost always using AF solvents that remove aromatic hydrocarbons (less than 1%) from the ink solvent to improve the environmental pollution of the ink during production and printing. It should be said that this offset ink made of AF solvent is also an environmentally friendly ink, but there is no AF solvent available in China, which also restricts the development of non-aromatic offset printing inks in China.
(3) Waterless offset ink
Waterless offset printing uses an ink-repellent silicone resin coated printing plate to remove the coating in the image to absorb the ink and realize the transfer of the graphic. This saves the use of dampening solution and can be said to have contributed greatly to environmental protection. However, in the actual printing process, the waterless offset printing ink is greatly affected by the ambient temperature, it is easy to get dirty, the transferability of the ink and the ink of the ink are not as good as the ordinary offset printing ink, and special waterless offset printing equipment is needed, and the application and promotion are affected. Certain restrictions. However, under the pressure of environmental protection, the United States and Japan have begun to actively try waterless offset printing, which deserves people's attention.
