Chapter One: Industry Chain Resonance and Brand Packaging Innovation
From 'marketing' to 'sales-marketing,' a single-word change signifies a comprehensive elevation of packaging value. Practitioners from brands, design, production, and supply chains collectively confirm that the way to break through lies in collaborative co-creation. This chapter will delve into how the production process can be involved early in value design, how technological and material innovations can directly translate into market competitiveness, and ultimately clarify that the future of packaging is a new growth engine driven by consumer demand, deeply integrated across the entire chain, and collaboratively propelled. The answer has emerged from consensus, and practice is already underway.
Senior R&D Manager of Mondelēz International, Li Yixiong, delivered a keynote speech titled "Brand Owners' Expectations for Packaging." In his presentation, Mr. Li provided an in-depth analysis of the logic behind packaging innovation from the perspective of brand owners. He proposed five collaborative modules centered on "consumer insights," emphasizing that packaging innovation is driven by both technological push and market pull. Among them, the "two 5-second" principle directly targets the core value of packaging, while consumer demand trends such as premiumization, convenience, personalization, and sustainability are the fundamental drivers of packaging upgrades. Mr. Li also demonstrated through classic cases that successful packaging redesign can multiply perceived consumer value and significantly optimize brand business metrics. Finally, he highlighted that cutting-edge technologies such as single-material solutions, paper-for-plastic alternatives, and digital printing serve as critical bridges linking brand needs with supply chain capabilities, providing a clear path for collaborative innovation in the industry.
Le Yijun, National Packaging Development Manager of Ferrero China, gave a presentation titled "Channel Brand Packaging," noting that the essence of packaging innovation lies in serving sales. Mr. Le stated that packaging design must be deeply integrated with channel characteristics and sales objectives. He systematically categorized packaging into four types: traffic-generating, main-sales, incremental, and premium, pointing out significant differences in their adaptation logic and pricing strategies across different channels. Packaging is not only the "clothing" of a product but also a key vehicle for brand communication, functional feature display, and capturing shelf attention. He emphasized that packaging developers must adopt a market-oriented mindset, understand both channel and consumer needs, and achieve full channel coverage through an accurate packaging matrix, ultimately driving sales growth.
Ye Yijun, National Packaging Development Director of Unusual Emperor Famillett Candy (China) Co., Ltd.
Zhi Xiaobo, Founder/Chief Creative Officer of Shenzhen BOB Design and CEO of Lidao Liquor Industry, shared "Empowering Brand Marketing-From Creative Design to Printing Process Implementation." With profound industry insight, Zhi delivered a strong message of "redefining the value of printing." He pointed out that the current printing industry faces thin profit margins and underestimated value, rooted in a "cognitive gap" with end consumers. He emphasized that printing companies must move beyond the traditional role of producing only for brand owners and directly address C-end user needs, transforming physical packaging from a "production cost" into an irreplaceable "brand asset" and "user experience touchpoint." Through multiple vivid case studies, he demonstrated how "strategic printing" can deeply integrate brand strategy, user experience, and technical processes, truly creating growth for brands. He stated that the industry urgently needs to evolve from "production executors" to "brand experience co-creation engineers," making printing a soulful and sustainable value link connecting brands and consumers.

Ma Changming, Deputy General Manager of Suzhou Coswood Color Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a speech titled "Green Innovation as the Foundation, Digital Intelligence as the Wing-Coswood Ink Driving Brand Value Resonance in the Printing Industry Chain." Addressing the widespread profit challenges and cutthroat competition in the printing and packaging industry, he pointed out that the root causes lie in information distortion, overcapacity, and the fading demographic dividend. Ma emphasized that the way to break through is to fully transition to value competition, shifting from a "price-driven race" to a "brand empowerment" paradigm. At the same time, he suggested actively leveraging growth opportunities in overseas markets and building a moat through technological innovation. Finally, Ma called on the industry to bid farewell to short-term price wars, uphold long-termism, and, by focusing on leading positions in niche segments, deepening customer orientation, and pursuing globalization, support each other through the industry's "winter" and jointly move toward a new future driven by value.
Ma Changming, Deputy General Manager of Suzhou Coswood Color Technology Co., Ltd.
Lian Weiqiang, General Manager of Shanghai Lianyang Printing Technology Development Co., Ltd., shared "Data Ecology-Reshaping Printing Value." General Manager Lian pointed out that the essence of data-driven packaging is transforming from static products into dynamic digital interfaces, becoming brand assets and data entry points that are linkable, traceable, and operable. This requires printing companies not only to build internal digital capabilities but also to empower externally. By giving each product a unique identity, they can create a full-chain data loop from production to consumption, thereby generating new value in areas such as anti-counterfeiting traceability and precision marketing.

Roundtable Discussion: Transformation and Innovation in Publishing Production
This roundtable discussion on "Transformation and Innovation in Publishing Production" was hosted by Guo Chuntao, member of the Party Committee and Director of the Industry Service Center at the China Academy of Printing Technology. Guests participating in the discussion included Yu Lixuan, General Manager of the Printing Center at Chemical Industry Press; Guo Xu, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Quyixian Book Planning Co., Ltd.; and Duan Bing, Director of the Publishing Department at Jieli Publishing House.

Three experts in the publishing field directly confronted the industry's cold spell, offering an in-depth analysis of the severe challenges currently facing the publication printing market, including simultaneous declines in volume and price, as well as overcapacity. In the face of the impact of new educational support policies, the decline in children's publishing, and dramatic changes in distribution channels, merely cutting prices cannot break the deadlock. The path to upgrading for printing companies lies in fundamental transformation: they must shift from 'industrial services' to 'service-oriented industry,' cultivate a deep user-centric mindset, and provide 'one-stop' comprehensive solutions that reduce inventory and enable precise production. At the same time, companies should actively embrace a dual production model combining traditional and digital methods, while paying attention to emerging markets such as 'printed books and diverse media formats.' The core consensus is that only through technological enhancement, supply chain integration, and refined services can companies build irreplaceable customer value, navigate cyclical challenges, and explore new opportunities for survival and growth in a saturated market.
