The die cutting process is a key point in the carton processing. In order to obtain the ideal die-cutting effect, in addition to paying attention to the operation method of the die-cutting process itself, the process control of each process before die-cutting is also very important, and this article will discuss this.
1 box design
The shape of the box should be designed according to the requirements of the contents. Under normal circumstances, the size of the main body is 2 to 5 mm larger than the outer diameter of the contents, which can ensure that the product can be smoothly put in and taken out after the box is formed, and also meets the environmental protection theme of today's society - saving paper.
When making layouts for the carton that determines the size of the main body, due consideration should be given to reducing the size of the knives during the splicing and changing the size of the relatively minor parts such as the mouth and the tongue to save paper and facilitate subsequent processing. According to the characteristics of our company's die-cutting and pasting equipment, the author usually reduces the size of the knife to 3mm and the width of the mouth to 8mm.
2 printing layout design
The design of the printing layout is closely related to the die-cutting control of the carton. Whether the design is ingenious determines the difficulty of the die-cutting process to a certain extent. The best design should have both a good idea and a convenient printing and finishing process. For example, it should be avoided to design a product with extremely high requirements for the plate, because in this case, as long as the paper is slightly deformed or slightly misaligned during die cutting, quality problems may occur.
3 paper selection
When die-cut into boxes, we often find that some cartons are not as good as we expected. It is often too soft, not strong enough, or the cartons are not square enough. The reason is usually the paper we choose. The quality requirements of the product are not met, or the direction of the selected paper is not suitable. Only when the direction of the thread of the paper is perpendicular to the main processing line of the paper box, a more square shape can be obtained. For products that require paper facing or crepe, it is necessary to ensure the vertical intersection of the paper and the bottom of the paper. For corrugated boxes, also make sure that the corrugations are oriented perpendicular to the direction of the carton.
4 die-cutting production
(1) Selection of steel knives. For long-single products, such as products with a total number of die-cutting times of more than 10,000 times, we recommend the use of imported knives (such as Baodao knives), because the imported knives have sharp edges and long life, which can ensure no burrs when die-cutting. For products that require die cutting for less than 10,000 times, steel knives produced by joint ventures or domestic companies can be used.
(2) Select the specifications of the die-cut steel wire according to the thickness of the paper used. The height of the steel wire should be the height of the steel knife used minus the thickness of the paper. Our factory usually uses steel wire with a thickness of 0.71mm. If the selected steel wire is too high, it will cause the product to fracturing; if the selected steel wire is too low, the product indentation line will be too shallow, and it is not easy to form the carton.
(3) Select laser die-cut or manual die-cut according to the quality requirements of the product. The laser die-cutting plate uses a laser cutting machine to cut the plate with high precision and a dimensional error of 0.1 mm, while the die-cutting size of the hand-cut is usually 0.2 mm. Although the price of laser die-cutting is slightly higher, it is also an ideal choice for value for money because of the high quality of the products it produces.
(4) For products with extremely high product quality requirements, the die-cut version should be made after calculating the paper deformation rate. Some products undergo printing and other surface treatments (such as laminating, glazing, etc.), the size of the product will change, and in severe cases, the deformation of the paper can reach 5mm. Therefore, it is necessary to first calculate the deformation rate of the paper and then make a die-cutting plate, so as to ensure the die-cutting precision of the product.
5 printing, glazing, film coating process control
(1) For products that require UV glazing on the surface, use ordinary matt inks when printing, and add or not add ink additives (adhesives, eliminators, viscosifiers, etc.). In order to ensure the firm adhesion of the UV varnish layer, the UV varnish layer and the ink layer are broken when the die-cutting indentation is prevented, so that the paper edge or the indentation is exposed to the paper color, thereby seriously affecting the boxing effect.
(2) For products requiring film coating, the additive should be used as little as possible and the amount of printing powder should be reduced during printing to avoid foaming at the die-cutting indentation.
(3) The rules of the same batch of printed products must be strictly consistent, otherwise it will affect the die-cutting rules, resulting in the problem of die-cutting running rules and box-shaped patterns.
6 temperature and humidity control during production
If the product can not maintain a certain temperature and humidity during the production process, it is easy to deform, warp or swell the paper, which will definitely affect the quality of the die cutting. Therefore, it is necessary to control the temperature and humidity, generally need to do the following: before printing, the raw paper is transported to the printing workshop or the place where the temperature and humidity of the printing workshop are consistent and placed for more than 24 hours, so that the paper reaches the moisture content suitable for printing; After that, the shrink film is wound in time to moisturize. This is also done when performing other processing before die cutting.
