Peter Lane is the chairman of the WPC7 Steering Committee. He has been the chairman of the Rennes Printing Group. Since 1999, Mr. Ren is the Honorary Secretary General of the Australian Printing Industry Association. In addition, he also served as a member of the National Printing Industry Training Board. Before the WPC, we interviewed Mr. Peter Rehn.

Reporter: Please tell us about the Rennes Printing Group.

Rennes: The Rennes Group is a private printing company. The company has 110 employees and is based in the capitals of Canberra and Adelaide. The company's main business is electronic printing, publishing and printing, e-commerce, etc., printing products include magazines, books, promotional samples and so on.

Reporter: Have you participated in several world printing conferences?

Rennes: The World Printing Congress has been successfully held for six times. The first was held in Singapore in 1978; the second was held in San Francisco in 1981; the third was held in Hong Kong in 1985; the fourth was held in Rio de Janeiro in 1989; and the fifth was held in New Delhi in 1993; The sixth was held in 1997 in Adelaide, Australia. In addition to the WPC7 to be held in Beijing, China, I have participated in WPC5 and WPC6.

Reporter: How do you think the world's printing technology will develop?

Rennes: The theme of the 7th World Printing Conference is “The Challenge of the Knowledge Economy to the Printing Industry in the 21st Century”, which is a high-level overview of the problems facing the printing industry in various countries.

At present, countries and industries are facing pressures on cost, price, product demand and supply, and the printing industry is no exception. The cost of paper and labor increases, printing technology, new media, new ways of doing business, and changes in the purchasing power of print buyers can affect printing efficiency.

The current question is not whether printing is dying, but how printing works! Despite the challenges and changes, the printing industry still has a bright future. The printing industry is becoming more and more global. We must improve the status of the printing industry in the eyes of the government and the public. Let everyone know that the printing industry can not only provide services, but also create employment opportunities and attract outstanding talents. The printing industry will continue to Pre-development.

Technological changes and the impact of the economy on the printing industry will enable all companies to improve services, production processes and communication with customers. Productivity improvements, price competition, environmental issues, alternative printing methods for traditional printing methods, and the development of networks also require innovative solutions and applications.

The development of technology will make the boundaries between industries and countries increasingly blurred. It is not only necessary but also important to hold a world printing conference to discuss the issues of printing, communication and media.

We are in an era of both challenges and excitement. China has a large population and rapid economic development. Printing has long been available. It is very suitable for China to host the 7th World Printing Conference at the beginning of the new century.

Reporter: What is your impression of the printing industry in China and China? What do you think of China's printing market?

Rennes: I am honored and very happy to be the chairman of the steering committee of WPC7 to participate in WPC7 held in Beijing in May 2001.

The China Printing Museum in Beijing shows that the invention of Chinese printing has made a significant contribution not only to China but also to the development of Western civilization.

I think that if there is any development potential in a country's industry, we can look at the level of technical equipment exhibited at the exhibitions they hold. In May 1996, I was fortunate to visit the 4th China Print Exhibition with members of the World Printing Conference Steering Committee. At the exhibition, overseas exhibitors exhibited their most advanced technology and equipment. It can be seen that the Chinese market has great potential.

I believe that from the equipment exhibited in China Print 2001, we can see that China has market potential in both printing machine purchase and print consumption.
