In recent years, prepress production software has become increasingly diverse, and PC platform software requires more and more output. For some reason, the complexity of making files through cross-platform and multi-software fusion makes the output appear to have such problems. How to correctly produce and output the desired effect becomes a problem that people are very concerned about. Through years of production and output practice, the author puts forward the following experiences for reference.

First, about graphics, image software

The image processing software is mainly Photoshop. The problem that Photoshop needs to pay attention to is that the resolution of the image should reach the 300 or 350 dpi color mode required for printing. Generally, CMYK can be applied to make the color of the output consistent with the production time. If other modes are used, the output result and the color at the time of production may be greatly different. This is mainly because the general RIP automatically converts the mode into CMYK, causing color deviation. The storage format is generally TIFF that is generally accepted by the production software, and the bottomed image can be stored in a clipping path. Larger files are best stored in color-separated EPS, to avoid image distortion in some group software (such as PageMaker), and to greatly accelerate the formation of PS files and RIP interpretation process.

The vector graphics processing software is mainly Illustrator. Illustrator is quite convenient and excellent in graphics production. The file format EPS is also accepted by various group softwares, and the stretch scaling does not affect the output effect. The main concern is that its 100% black is not automatically overprinted, but is left empty. You can select overprint or fill in the Properties window by selecting the hook or fill color in the Filter-Color-Black Overprint function, so you can overprint any color and bring great convenience to the spot color output. In addition, the fonts in Illustrator can also be converted to path output. There is no problem in applying any beautiful font.

Second, about the group software

Apple and PC platform common version of the software is mainly PageMaker. The software is mature, but there are still some issues to be aware of. The main advantage of PageMaker is that multi-page production and multi-point positioning are more convenient. The disadvantage is that the page size is limited and the font can not be used freely, especially the Chinese font. If the bitmap is downloaded, the phenomenon of running and missing characters will appear. There will be no problems with the download. The solution is to convert the word into a path in the graphics software and store it as an EPS and then put it into PageMaker. PageMaker can do spot colors and overprints by selecting a special color (spot color) in the defined color and ticking the overprint option. PageMaker should pay attention to its own font effects (such as bold, double shadow, underline, etc.), and may have ghosting or invalid effects when outputting. These font effects are best made in other software.

Third, about Office software

Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. in Office are not software designed for printing, but office software, so it is more troublesome to handle. The first is that documents can't be separated by RIP, which brings great inconvenience to color printing. The general processing method is to transfer the text to txt, and the picture is exported to TIFF or EPS. After converting to CMYK, it is re-programmed and then output in the group software. If the black and white file output can directly form the PS file with the original file, it should be noted that the original file cannot be directly taken to the output center for output. Different software environments do not cause major changes in the layout. When the PS file is generated on the machine and then interpreted to the output center RIP, there will be no problem with the layout.

Fourth, about CorelDraw software

At present, CorelDraw is widely used in PC platform. CorelDraw is powerful, can produce vector graphics and group version, and has many special effects. It is worth noting that when the output is gray, sometimes the space is sometimes empty. In addition to 100% black, the gray color is required to be empty. This requires that the black color will be overprinted in the color separation menu of the print option. Make 100% black overprint and the rest gray to empty. CorelDraw sometimes has a situation where RIP cannot explain, mainly due to excessive curves or implicit characters with some errors. At this time, you need to use the queuing method to patiently find out the error and correct it. In the end, there is no way to test it and export it to AI and transfer it to EPS output in Illustrator, or save it to other versions (such as CorelDraw6.0). The most stable) to output, as long as there is no special effect of the high version, it generally works. The types of images that can be placed in CorelDraw are extensive, but they often have problems. For example, the PSD image to the background often breaks when the imposition is rotated, so the image must be rotated in Photoshop and then placed. Some types of images or special effects can be solved if the output is found to be converted to a CMYK bitmap in the bitmap mode--conversion bitmap.

Fifth, about Autocad and other software

At present, Autocad, Mapcad, MapGIS and other engineering map software require a lot of printing, but RIP software can not directly output CAD files, and needs to be converted. The Autocad file can usually be printed by the PS printer to generate an EPS file, and then the RGB color can be converted into CMYK color for output in Illustrator. The application software can also be used to color combine and convert the RGB color EPS file to the spot color. The thin lines are filled with the spot color and then color-printed in the printing, which avoids the problem that the colored thin lines are difficult to register.

Sixth, the application of RIP software

RIP software can be used not only to interpret PS files, but some of its application functions can also play some unexpected roles. For example, HarlequinRIP can output PS files into composite color TIFF or color separation TIFF files, so that the entire layout of PageMaker and other software can be output as a TIFF or FPG for user proof or network electronic version. RIP can also generally perform back-end color separation, provided that the image in the file must be in EPS format. The back-end color separation can be selected from automatic 100% black for overprinting and changing the angle of any color version. It is very effective in CAD output.

The main problems in the production output are file format, font, black overprint, spot color, layout, or color mode. I believe that through the above experiences and principles, it is easy to freely output more software. Realize what you see is what you get.
