Now that printing companies are so competitive, printing companies need to be able to absorb new technologies to make them stand out from the competition. If you don't have to make huge investments in new digital presses or new offset presses, and only develop and utilize the functions of existing devices, the strategy that makes the company uniquely advantageous is very worthwhile and profitable. Similarly, if new technologies can save money, improve production efficiency and improve quality, then it is worth promoting and evaluating. I will explain in the article that the technology can improve the quality of printing without spending a lot of money, and I believe that printing companies can greatly enhance their competitiveness.
Sometimes in terms of print quality, we believe that we have reached the limit of quality, but sometimes some new technologies are gradually changing our perception of existing things. The way to control color screening is a key factor affecting print quality, and many people believe that we have reached the limit of improvement.
The researchers' research on color screening has been extended to realize the cross-domain from traditional photography screening to digital screening. This is the first time humans have changed from rational tangent screening to irrational fuzzy screening, so we can Use analog screening to constantly match traditional screening effects. The first problem in the matching process was that our research was still stagnant in early irrational screening patents. Once it has made significant progress, computer technology can be used to optimize the screening model to improve color quality.
Despite this, in the color image printing process, we still have major color problems that have not been solved, such as color replacement, Moir interference fringes and screen uncoordinated. We are also having difficulty dealing with small images with rough textures or lack of smooth transitions. In the highlights and faint areas of the image, many details are partially lost due to the presence of rosettes or the absence of ink in certain areas. We also encounter great difficulties when using traditional digital AM screening technology to obtain higher quality images.
Major research in screening is focused on solving the above problems and finding new screening technologies. The most commonly used screening technique in color printing is FM screening, which has the advantage of avoiding rose pattern interference and using a random distribution of dots of the same precision as the recording device to represent image tones. Among the many different names of FM screening technology providers, Kodak is the most famous. Kodak offers FM screening technology that varies with the size of the dot, with the smallest dot reaching 10 microns. Although the FM screening technology can eliminate the defects of the traditional screening in the process of continuously adjusting the original printing, there are still many technical problems in printing the planar color patches. If FM screen printing is used, especially when the diameter of the screen dot is extremely small, the printing quality control becomes more and more difficult.
In order to avoid the problems caused by FM screening, many screening technology service providers have proposed the use of hybrid screening technology, that is, adopting FM screening and AM screening technology on the same original. Although this combination can produce good results, it is also brought about by the combination of AM screening and AM screening technology. The printing industry seems to have accepted the fact that the use of FM screening, AM screening and hybrid screening coexistence in printing, and the new screening technology that can really improve the printing quality has not yet matured.
Almost three years ago, I was called from Andy. Kevina learned about a new screening technology, he is one of the originators of screening screen screening technology. The new screening technology is digital AM screening. It is just as its name. It is not a fixed array in repeated AM screening or a random dot distribution in FM screening, but digitally modulates each generated pixel. This technology enables the printing screening quality to reach an unprecedented height, and the original can be easily reproduced with high quality using any CTP device such as inkjet type, ultraviolet type or heat radiation type and printing plate.
The pixel points decomposed by this screening technique can ensure that the plate dot is small enough, and of course there are no holes so small that the ink cannot be filled, and no holes are large enough to be seen by the naked eye. The dot is made in a strict style, which ensures that it is accurately delivered where it is needed, smoothing the color transition and evenly flattening the color patches.
This technology mainly modulates each pixel by comprehensive understanding of laser, plate characteristics, printer characteristics and ink characteristics to eliminate the dot enlargement problem and lead to the complete subversion of the original crafts and texture mode.
I have been paying attention to Auraia's research and development in new screening technology for a long time. Recently, I am honored to have the opportunity to evaluate the performance of single factor experiments on UV curing and thermoforming CTP plates. Islam has made this technology available and will be the most important exhibit at Drupa. In order to better evaluate, I will use the actual printed samples as the experimental research object, and use the automated news newspaper to control the printing effect of the MAKO400 commercial CTP system according to the Ismail mode. The news newspaper will be printed using the online offset printing system of the British newspaper printing company Sharman, while the commercial printing samples will be printed on the Heidelberg SM-52 series of offset presses.
This process shows that under the same operating conditions, a detailed comparison report of the printing quality under the amplitude modulation screening and digital screen screening will be obtained. The commercial printing control group uses a 175-line amplitude modulation screening method. This sample is different from the typical samples that we routinely provide to the suppliers who deal with the technical problems of planar color blocks (there is no such problem with FM screening technology). This test evaluation process includes print tests under different conditions, mainly in different types of gram-coated paper and non-coated paper. The quality of commercial printed samples is the same as the unprocessed 400-line screening effect, and more importantly, there is no moire interference fringe and color shift problem; in the same quality as the best FM screening, the effect is the same and there is no miscellaneous Color or printing process problems.
The quality of all samples tested with UV-cured CTP plates is much better than with heat-cured CTP plates. Iasiman stated this, and I agree with him. I also used thermal plate experiments on the screening CTP system and found that small sample quality is comparable to UV-cured plates. When comparing FM screening and AM screening, the print quality of the experimental samples below is indeed very different.
1, very realistic image quality. There are no rose spots at any point in the print, and the entire picture looks like a continuous tone image. This phenomenon is particularly noticeable on newsprint, and those samples are the best prints I have seen under these conditions.
2, Isaman's digital screen system after screen printing and quality and 300-400 line number of amplitude modulation and hybrid screening technology effect. The printer will not have to over-consider the use of 300-400 line screen printing on standard equipment, and can change the operation process to print high quality.
3, very clear color and color saturation, color text is particularly obvious. These readable texts can achieve 1.5 pounds of precision.
4, the image sharpening is high, the most subtle part of the image can also be clearly expressed.
5. The color block is excessively smooth, the area ratio of the high-gloss dot is as close as 0%, and the area ratio of the dot is up to 100%. There is no problem of moire interference fringe and color shift.
What impressed me a lot about this test result is its ability to handle the spot color of Pantone color card, especially on uncoated substrates. The structure of the dot in the digital screen system is advantageous for printing four-color ink to infiltrate the paper, and finally forms a spot color effect on the continuous tone image. If you can replace the color in the CMYK color gamut with a spot color, you can save the printer a lot of other colors.
Then how to use the new technology of screening to improve your printing performance, obviously improve the quality of printing is the primary key. If the printer offers higher quality prints, it will make you stand out from the many print service providers. The use of Ismail's digital screen screening system solution has many other benefits. Because the dot structure of the system can be easily controlled during printing and it is easy to catch up with the color of the sample and maintain stability, the printing quality is better and the printing speed is faster.
The system can make the typesetting time shorter and waste less, whether it is using AM or FM. The system's overprinting inaccuracy is more tolerant than conventional AM screening due to poor accuracy.
Another benefit is that the system can save a lot of ink compared to conventional screening techniques. The test results show that the system can save more than 20% of the ink without using an ink saving system and printing fidelity.
Newspapers and business printers, once they see the use of Isaman's digital screen screening system to take advantage of existing equipment, will also form the same view as when I was concerned about the benefits of new technologies. It may not be the latest high-tech printing system at Drupa's eye-catching show, but it is the most direct and lowest-cost technology investment for business printing and newspaper printers to improve print quality, and print performance is therefore different. .
