In the label printing field, cold stamping has become the mainstream post-press efficiency enhancement process that can be directly integrated into flexo production lines. The vast majority of flexo printing equipment comes pre-configured with cold stamping functions in their factory configurations, making it easy for the industry to view online cold stamping for flexographic printing as a simple, standardized routine procedure. However, in reality, this process still faces many technical challenges. Only operators who master the key points can achieve perfect cold stamping results on flexo printing equipment.

The working principle of cold stamping and market demand

Compared to traditional hot stamping techniques, although cold stamping doesn't have as delicate and refined texture, it is still a highly cost-effective post-press enhancement process that creates a visually striking differentiated effect for flexo products.

The working principle of cold hot stamping is as follows: first, UV varnish glue is applied to the areas of the substrate that require hot stamping, then the aluminum foil is pressed to the glued area, followed by a UV lamp (LED ultraviolet lamp or traditional UV lamp) to cure the glue to ensure firm adhesion of the aluminum foil, and finally excess aluminum foil scrap is removed from the carrier film.

As the demand for high value-added and differentiated appearance processes in the label and packaging market continues to rise, narrow and medium format flexographic printing factories are driving up their procurement demand for online hot stamping (especially cold stamping) equipment. Currently, cold stamping units have become the mainstream configuration for flexo printing equipment, basically entering the industry standardization stage.

The amount of glue applied to the dry film directly determines the coating thickness; precise control ensures firm adhesion of the aluminum foil while achieving high-speed registration accuracy.

Generally, large-area solid hot stamping uses standard line count anilox rollers; Fine serif lines and precision graphic hot stamping require high line count and low ink load anilox rollers. Most orders on the market include both solid and fine lines, and the composite anilox roller specifications can meet both needs simultaneously. To precisely meet the process requirements of different production scenarios, companies often choose to customize specialized hot stamping and anilox roller specifications.

In the cold stamping production system, anilox rollers are by no means ordinary mechanical parts; they are core key components that ensure stable printing quality, unified processes, and production profitability, playing a decisive role in overall production results.

The impact of aluminum foil selection on the cold stamping process

To achieve stable and efficient online cold stamping production, the key lies in fully understanding the compatibility between aluminum foil and substrate, with a focus on two key aspects: material adsorption and glue curing bonding.

Currently, there are many types of cold-stamped aluminum foil on the market, with differences in grade and metal color. Printing factories must communicate with material suppliers and technical partners to match aluminum foil that achieves the desired results. The best way to master cold stamping is to repeatedly test samples, become familiar with the performance of different grades of aluminum foil on equipment, continuously accumulate practical experience during trial production, and abandon blind production based on experience.
