In-mold labels are commonly used in plastic film substrates, printed in a conventional manner, coated with a layer of UV or EB-curing varnish to protect the back, and the back of the label is coated with a solid chemical binder. The in-mold label material is suitable for a variety of printing processes and different inks including: screen printing, UV letterpress, flexographic, gravure and lithographic offset printing. Prior to the selection of the ink, the adhesion, scratch resistance, chemical resistance, etc. of the ink on the in-mold label material should be tested according to the requirements of the final application.

There are two types of printing methods for in-mold labels: web printing and sheet-fed printing.

  1. Web printing processing: divided into online processing and multiple processing. These two methods of processing are related to the plant's own equipment and label design requirements. If you print a label with a bronzing pattern, and the press has a round stamping and die-cutting device, the processed label can be formed at one time; if there is only a separate stamping machine and die-cutting machine, the label can only be processed multiple times. carry out. It is characterized by high production speed and high efficiency, but it is more suitable for mass production due to the high cost of the roll.

  2. Sheetfed printing: usually silk screen and flat offset printing. This method is completed in multiple processes on multiple devices. The printing process is related to the process design. The processing is more flexible, the plate making cost is lower than that of the reel, and it is suitable for small batch production. The printing effect is good, the screen printing is printed on the ground and offset. Both are better than the roll printing.

Offset printing process

  1. Offset features

A. The printing quality of small dots is superior to other printing methods.

B. In the line, the field printing effect and color saturation is not as good as other printing methods,

C. The control of chromatic aberration is more difficult than other printing methods.

D. For short-run business, the production cost of offset printing is lower than other printing methods.

E. It has the advantages of flexible production and rich printing. It is suitable for small-volume, multi-variety and high-quality in-mold labels. It is more suitable for the current label printing market in China.

  2. Offset printing process

A. The amount of powder sprayed is moderate, and the accumulation of printed materials should not be too high.

B. The post-press should be fully aged to make the ink dry, and the varnish should be coated after printing to ensure the quality of the printed product.

C. In the printing, due to the poor hygroscopicity of the substrate, the amount of dampening solution should be reduced by 10% to 15% compared with the printed paper product (subject to the dry plate). Excessive dampening solution can cause pseudo-drying and ink emulsification in printing, and the pH of the dampening solution is controlled between 6 and 6.5.

3. Offset printing equipment: Most of the domestic printing companies use Heidelberg sheetfed offset press series Speedmaster CD 74-medium format sheetfed offset press features:

* A wide range of substrates, from thin paper to hard cardboard to plastic film,

* Suitable for high-speed long-run jobs, fully automatic preparation and easy-to-control paper feeding systems,

* The digital CP 2000 print control system supports the rapid replacement of paper webs and paper cassettes.
