In the field of printing and plate making, the traditional folding and large-scale version has a large workload and low efficiency, and there is a lot of repetitive labor. The computer imposition technology makes the work of the large-scale version easy, and its convenience completely changes the traditional imposition work mode. The automatic layout is an important part of the digital workflow. There are many softwares for the manufacturers and software companies. It is necessary to conduct comprehensive analysis to facilitate users to choose the products that suit them.

The characteristics of the layout technology

The computerized version, as the name implies, uses a computer to make many small pages into a printed version. The role of the imposition in printing is to determine the most reasonable printing method, to provide the correct folding of the sheet, while also saving materials and shortening the printing time. We know that traditional manual imposition has high requirements on the operator. The operator needs to know the paper size, binding type, folding, bleeding, cutting size and cutting mark, crosshair and color control bar, and creep adjustment. parameter. Now that the computer version is used, the situation has changed a lot. Its main advantages are:

(1) Simplify the process flow, increase the degree of automation, replace more manual operations, and reduce the requirements for operators.

(2) Shorten production time and preparation time. Since the speed of computer imposition is much faster than the speed of manual imposition, the files that need to be spelled for one day can now be completed in one hour.

(3) Reduce waste of raw materials. Reduces material waste during adjustment and reduces production costs while reducing setup and preparation time. Due to the high error rate of manual imposition, it is often found that the imposition is wrong after the completion of the PS version, resulting in more material waste, and computer imposition rarely exists.

(4) Improve product reliability and consistency. Since the documents handed over to the printing house are already finished, the quality of the products processed at different times and regions can be kept consistent, and the stability of the print quality is improved.

(5) Improve product quality and reduce errors. Since the large version is completed by the computer before the film is released, there is no registration and error problem, which effectively improves the product quality.

Classification of the layout technology

1. Folding hands and free fight

Judging from the main use of the computerized version, there are mainly two ways of folding and free spelling.

(1) Folding hand is mainly used for samples, books, albums and other printed materials that need to be folded. The process of imposition is complex and requires the operator to have some expertise in printing and finishing, such as printing paper size and size, printing and folding.

(2) Free spelling is aimed at saving materials (film). The imposition method is relatively simple, mainly to put together different documents of different sizes to make the effective use area of the film the largest. However, it is also necessary to have a certain understanding of the printing method when printing the document version on the same machine.

2. RIP pre-imposition and RIP post-imposition

From the relationship between the layout and RIP, it can be divided into two ways: RIP pre-imposition and RIP post-imposition.

(1) RIP pre-imposition: First, the page is spelled into a large version and then sent to RIP, which is the most commonly used method. First complete the layout and trapping of each page, then perform the layout of each page, and create an output file containing the OPI (Open Prepress Interface) command (for high and low resolution images when RIP is called). Finally, the document is sent to RIP for processing. However, this imposition method makes the amount of data processed by RIP larger, and the processing is not suitable for transmission via network access. In addition, since all kinds of large-scale software are mainly processing PS files, the layout software must output the produced pages in PS or EPS file format before the layout operation (DK&A company's Imposition is an exception. This is a time-consuming task, and since the PS file is usually much larger than the original file of the application, it takes more time to process the file and requires a large amount of hard disk storage space.

(2) After RIP imposition: first RIP page, and then spell large version, suitable for packaging, label printing. This workflow simplifies the modification of the final document. If you find that a page contains a typographical error, you only need to re-rip the page once after correcting the error, replacing the original error, which is much more troublesome than re-routing the entire large version of RIP.
