Typically, a digital proofing system consists of two parts: color management software and a color inkjet printer. Among them, color management software plays an important role in the process of matching the color of printed matter. Color management using ICC technology has been adopted by many color management software. The color management software controls the ICC Profle file to match the printing, adjust the proofing color, and establish the color management standard of the printing process control process.
Color management software typically includes the printer's ICC file and printed ICC file. The ICC file base of the printer used by different color management software is different, so the printer ICC file between softwares cannot be used universally. For example, COLOR PROOF and SCREEN PROOF software, you need to adjust the basic linearity of the printer before controlling the ICC Profile, control the ink output of the printer, and then combine the data measured by the spectrophotometer with the basic linearity of the printer to generate the printer. ICC file (both Paper Profile); the printer ICC file for Color Tune software is generated by combining the printer density curve. The establishment of printer ICC files is closely related to printer ink droplet combination, ink output, resolution and other printing parameters. Different ink output and resolution require different printer ICC files.
In theory, the printer's ICC Profile should be fixed if the printing device, media, and ink type are fixed. However, due to the difference between the same type of printing equipment, media and ink, such as: the same type of inkjet printer, the working state of the printer heads of different printers is not the same, the amount of inkjet is not the same, so that the output is Imaging characteristics are also different. Therefore, this requires the digital proofing color management software to achieve a certain standard by correcting the ink discharge amount (print density) of the printer to realize the versatility of the ICC profile of the printer itself. When the working conditions of the digital proofing system change, it is only necessary to re-calibrate the ink output (print density) of the printer to ensure the color stability of the entire proofing system. However, due to the influence of comprehensive factors such as environment, equipment and consumables, it is not possible to make different systems meet the same standard simply by software linearity (density) correction. Therefore, in order to achieve better results in actual digital proofing debugging, each proofing is required. The system makes a personalized ICC Profile to draw the differences between different systems. However, most of the personalized ICC Profile will increase the difficulty and cost of proofing, which will cause obstacles to the standard of the proofing system and weaken the controllability of the digital proofing system. Therefore, it is necessary to solve the benchmark of the proofing software itself and the system equipment consumables. , the standard of the environment and measuring instruments, and finally achieve the uniformity of the ICC Profile of the proofing system.
Printed ICC files are obtained by measuring the printed color chart with a spectrophotometer (different spectrophotometers use different color meters), and all color management software can use the same printed ICC file. However, different printers use different PS versions, different papers, different inks, different printing machines, different printing conditions, etc., resulting in certain differences in printed ICC file information. Therefore, in China, printed ICC files will follow The printing factory varies from one to the other.
After the conversion relationship between the ICC Profile and the printed ICC Profile is established through the digital proofing color management software, from the design idea of the color management software, the matching of the proofing result and the printing result is realized, that is, the proofing color and the printing color are realized. Consistent. However, in the actual production process, all the requirements of color consistency cannot be fully satisfied. The reasons are as follows:
1. The color block for ICC Profile test can only divide the color space finitely. The transition color between them can only be simulated by software operation, and the color control software can only control the color of the device through limited points. Therefore, there is absolutely no guarantee that there will be no chromatic aberration.
2. The spectral characteristics of the proofing ink are inconsistent with the spectral characteristics of the printed ink, while the spectrophotometer only reads the chromaticity value under a standard light source, and this value is not guaranteed to be uniform under any light source.
3. There is a certain difference in the stability and uniformity of the printed sample provided with reference, and the sample will have some color drift.
4. The stability of the proofing system itself and the error and environment of the measuring instrument will affect the consistency of color.
5. The same sample shows different colors under different lighting conditions, viewing angles, background colors and other conditions.
6. The subjective feeling of the observer can cause inconsistencies in color perception.
Now, color management software and specialized ICC production software packages can basically solve the above problems through different ways (such as curve adjustment, individual color adjustment), reduce color errors, and meet the different needs of actual production.
