In the printing industry, the plate-making field has been renamed as Prepress for many years. In recent years, the word Premedia has appeared in the past. Is there any difference between it and Prepress? What is the difference? How to translate the name?
Ms. Schneider, Head of Premedia Department of Donnelley Printing Co., Ltd., said at the Prepress2000 forum: "I am worried about the prepress industry and I am worried about the participants. If you don't cross Prepress, you will not develop. With the right technology and finding the right partner, then after three to five years, you will not be able to participate in this forum."
Then she explained the difference and relationship between Prepress and Premedia.
Prepress (Prepress) refers to the work of preparing all data for printing, including: scanning, proofing, preflighting, accessing documents, spelling pages and plates.
Premedia (provisional translation for multimedia pre-processing) refers to all the data processing for printing, but also for the network output for multimedia preparation. Image data can come from both digital photography and digital scanning. The core of Premedia's work is to establish a digital asset management DAM (digital) that can be obtained through the network The assets management system allows the user to retrieve, convert, edit, modify, and reformat the portrait, text, video or audio as needed, depending on the output method and the different media requirements. This shows that Premedia is a big step forward on the basis of Prepress. Its goal has gone beyond general printing to serving cross-media.
Prepress's workflow is centered on paper media, while Premedia's workflow is aimed at re-selecting other media, based on a database. The workflow between the two is quite different. There are also considerable differences in the skills, work abilities, and skills that need to be applied. For example, RGB data is converted to CMYK in the Prepress workflow, but not in the Premedia workflow. In the Premedia division of Donnelley, there is a full RGB workflow, and RGB is originally derived from portraits. They believe that converting RGB to CMYK is necessary in paper media or printing, but this kind of work is not high value-added and can't make big money. The development of digital photography is strikingly fast and promising, which will be the main future of their business. Among them, DAM is the key to success. So they are ready to build their business to help their families better manage their digital assets and brands. If the households are also ready to develop in this direction, then they will either do it or do it well and do it quickly. To this end, Ms. Schneider also suggested: "First, alienation scanning, close to digital photography; second, deprecation of RGB workflow; third, DAM and XML (extensible Markup language) is integrated in the workflow; fourth, add video and audio capabilities. "
It seems that technology is endless and only waiting for people.
