With the improvement of people's living standards and health, the pursuit of low-toxicity, environmental protection and health products, our ink market has undergone certain changes, and the water-based market is gradually improving. At present, water-based inks are mainly flexible and gravure printing. Most of these two types of printing are food packaging, tobacco and alcohol, pharmaceutical factories, and children's toys occupying a considerable market. About 95% of flexible printing and gravure printing in the United States and Europe are water-based, while China currently accounts for only 3%.

Water-based inks have been born in this context. In the field of printing, in order to eliminate the VOC (low-boiling organic compounds) released by solvent-based inks, that is, to meet the requirements of EPA to reduce or eliminate VOCs, chemical engineers have continuously developed high solids. Sub-coatings, powder coatings, UV-curing coatings, water-based coatings, etc., these inks have greatly reduced VOC emissions, and some even eliminated VOC emissions.

Composition of water-based ink

The water-based ink is made by a combination of aqueous resin, pigment, solvent and auxiliary agent. The water-soluble resin mainly functions as a binder in the ink to uniformly disperse the pigment particles, so that the ink has a certain fluidity, and the adhesion to the substrate material is generated, so that the ink forms a uniform film layer after printing.

Water-based ink characteristics

1. Water-based ink is a new type of environmentally-friendly printing ink with good adhesion, good flexibility, good elasticity, anti-sticking, water-resistant, printing, and super-networking, and high solid content.

2, non-flammable, stable ink, non-corrosive printing substrate, prevent color migration, strong water resistance, and rapid drying. It can not only reduce the risk of danger caused by static electricity and flammable solvents, but also reduce the residual toxicity of the printing surface, and it is convenient to clean the printing equipment, so it is especially used in packaging industries such as food, beverage and medicine.

3, water-based ink solvent is water and a small amount of alcohol, significantly reduce VOC emissions, can prevent air pollution, does not affect human health, in direct contact with the human body, such as: T-shirts and other pure cotton, elastic fabrics, The insole printing industry also has a wide range of uses, is recognized worldwide as an environmentally friendly material, and is currently recognized by the American Food Association for all printing inks.

4. In terms of cost, due to the rising price of organic solvents, the cost of using solvent-based inks is increasing. The solvent and washing network of water-based inks mainly use tap water, and the cost of use will be much lower than that of solvent-based inks.

Water-based ink instructions:

Applicable mesh: 40-100T (water-based screen printing)

Applicable squeegee: 65-70 degree polyester squeegee or water-based special squeegee is recommended

Coating area: 25-35 square meters / kg (77T polyester flat or glossy)

Thinner: neutral water

Washing water: ordinary tap water

Water-based ink formulation requirements

According to different printing requirements, the viscosity of the ink should be properly adjusted before use. When adjusting, pay attention to the neutrality of the added water, otherwise it will affect the viscosity and drying speed of the aqueous ink. At the same time, the amount of diluent (water) added should not exceed 3%, otherwise the color density of the ink may be lowered, which may also have a significant effect on the pH of the aqueous ink.

Printing requirements for water-based inks

Due to the self-characteristics of the water-based ink, the drying speed of the ink is difficult to control, so it is suitable for rapid printing during printing, and the printing speed is too slow, which may cause the ink on the screen to dry quickly.

Drying requirements for water-based inks

The water-based ink is mainly natural and dry, but after drying for 8 hours, it is better to bake for about 1 minute with 130 degrees.

Use of water-based ink additives

Slow drying agent: used to reduce the drying speed of water-based ink, the amount can not exceed 5%.

Defoamer: used to eliminate bubbles, the amount is between 0.5-2%.

Thickener: used to increase the viscosity of the resin to achieve a suitable viscosity of the ink, in an amount between 0.5 and 2%.

PH stabilizer: used to maintain the pH of the aqueous ink, controlling it between 8-9.5.

Precautions before using water-based ink

1. Water-based inks cannot be mixed with solvent-based inks, or benzene, esters, ethers, and ketone organic solvents are added to aqueous inks.

2, water-based ink should be stored indoors, the temperature is 5-40 degrees, avoid direct sunlight.

3. During the printing process, due to the volatilization of water, the viscosity will rise and the pH will drop. The pH stabilizer will be used to adjust the pH between 8-9.5.

4, due to the complexity and diversity of the current printing substrate, so before selecting an ink for mass production, it is necessary to do a strict prenatal test according to the actual production needs.

5, long-term storage of ink will produce a gel, need to be fully stirred.

6. After the ink is formulated, it needs to be used after defoaming, otherwise the ink layer will generate bubbles or pinholes.

7. Static electricity on the screen or on the surface to be printed will cause pinholes in the printed ink layer.

8. When printing is stopped for a short time, it should be covered with a layer of ink immediately, otherwise it will easily lead to blocking the net.

9. Immediately after printing, rinse with water, otherwise it will be easy to block the net after drying, and the thickness of the screen can be increased to reduce the blocking of the screen on the screen.

10, the ink is not used in time to seal, in order to prevent the ink state.
