On March 8, 2017, under the close supervision of Xiamen Dongdu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, 440,000 disposable cups with unsatisfactory sensory indicators were supervised and destroyed.

The 440,000 imported paper cups were packaged in 441 cartons, with a value of 11,551 U.S. dollars. After import, they will be used for the clothing of a well-known domestic brand of drinks. When Dongdu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau conducted a sensory index test according to national standards, it found that the cup and cup mouth had a print within 15mm from the cup body, which did not conform to the national standard. The paper cup mouth was within 15MM from the cup body, and the cup bottom was not within 10MM from the cup body. The rules should be printed.

According to the inspection personnel of Dongdu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the national standard stipulates that “paper cups should not be printed within 15 mm from the cup body” is the protection of consumers. In the process of using the paper cup, the distance between the cup mouth and the cup body within 15MM will frequently come into contact with the human lips. If there is printing in this range, harmful substances such as benzene and toluene, which may be contained in the printing ink, will have adverse effects on human health. .

Food contact products are related to consumer health and safety. The Dongdu Bureau promptly informs the company of existing safety and health risks. Enterprises failed to carry out effective rectification and put forward a destruction application in consideration of the safety and health of consumers. Based on this, the Dongdu Bureau issued inspection and quarantine notices in time and supervised destruction of unqualified paper cups.

In this regard, inspection and quarantine officials reminded importers and agents to ensure that imported paper products, such as imported paper cups and other foods, should promptly understand relevant laws, regulations, and standards in China prior to contact with containers.
