Siegwerk, a global ink leader, acquires a well-known Indian specialty coatings manufacturer

On March 30, Siegwerk, a global leader in the field of coatings and printing inks, announced the official acquisition of Hi-Tech Inks, a well-known Indian manufacturer of printing inks and specialty coatings.

This move is not only the largest acquisition of Siegwerk in the past two decades, but also regarded by the industry as a key layout for its deep cultivation of the Indian and Asia-Pacific coating markets and strengthening its advantages in the field of flexible packaging coatings, which will have a profound impact on the competitive landscape of the regional coatings industry.

Replenish production capacity, expand products, and consolidate regional layout

The acquisition covers all of Hi-Tech Inks' core assets, including its two major production sites in Bhiwadi and Vapi, India, which can directly fill Siegwerk's production capacity shortcomings in India and improve regional operational influence and market responsiveness. At the same time, Siegwerk's product matrix has been enriched, and core products such as water-based, solvent-based printing inks, metal special effect coatings, and overprinting varnishes (OPV) have been added, which is in line with the diversified and functional transformation trend of the coating industry.

As a century-old German family business, Siegwerk has been focusing on gravure ink production since 1824 and has laid the foundation for the industry since 1911, and has now become a solution provider covering the entire printing process, covering the whole chain of services from primers to functional and decorative coatings, and has deep technical accumulation in the field of global coatings and inks. This acquisition is an important step in its expansion strategy in India and the Asia-Pacific region.

Ashish Pradhan, President of Siegwerk Asia, said the acquisition strengthens the company's position in the Indian flexible packaging market, enhancing its ability to serve customers, expand its coverage and innovate. According to the disclosure, Siegwerk's market share in India's flexible packaging has exceeded 20% after the acquisition, consolidating its leading position in the industry.

As a well-known local company in India, Hi-Tech Inks has mature technology and market channels in the field of special coatings. Its managing director, Karan Mahajan, said that the two parties are highly compatible in terms of quality, sustainability and other concepts, and will create new opportunities for growth and innovation.

It is reported that the transaction is the largest merger and acquisition since Siegwerk acquired SICPA's packaging ink business in 2005, and it is expected to be completed within a few weeks. According to industry analysis, after the integration, Siegwerk can take advantage of the local advantages of Hi-Tech Inks to enter the Indian flexible packaging coatings market, and the combined team of 1,700 people will form a strong talent and technical support.

Promote the green upgrading of the coating industry

India's flexible packaging industry is growing rapidly, and the demand for high-performance coatings and environmental solutions is rising. Siegwerk combines its global technology advantages with Hi-Tech Inks' local experience to respond to market trends more efficiently and meet the industry's emerging demand for water-based, solvent-based and specialty coatings.

The acquisition will also help Siegwerk deepen its sustainability strategy. As a promoter of the green transformation of the coatings industry, Siegwerk is promoting the research and development of circular solutions through the "rethINK Packaging" initiative, and Hi-Tech Inks' accumulation in the field of environmentally friendly coatings will further strengthen its innovation capabilities and meet the global low-carbon environmental protection mainstream.

Zhao Yu, a senior observer in the coatings industry, pointed out that Siegwerk's establishment in India is not only a key step in its own global layout, but also promotes the upgrading of India's packaging coatings industry. As global coating companies accelerate their layout in the Asia-Pacific region, the competition in the Indian market will become increasingly fierce, and this acquisition may trigger more mergers and acquisitions in the industry, promoting the development of regional industries to scale, high-end and green, and Siegwerk is expected to further expand its influence in the Asia-Pacific market in the future.
