Ireland bans oxo-degradable plastic products
Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Ireland issued an official statement regarding products made entirely or partially from oxo-degradable plastics: no manufacturer is allowed to place products made wholly or partly from oxo-degradable plastics on the domestic market.

The Irish EPA has evaluated these materials in accordance with European regulations on single-use plastic products and Directive 2019/904, concluding that products made entirely or partly from oxo-degradable plastics must not be sold on the EU market. The Spanish Association of Biodegradable and Compostable Plastics (ASOBIOCOM) stated that this decision is significant for reducing the environmental impact of conventional plastics in specific applications and for preventing potential 'greenwashing' practices that could mislead consumers and producers. The association pointed out that the 'decomposition' process of such materials is not equivalent to true biodegradation; their long-term presence in the environment could exacerbate microplastic pollution.
