Huazhe Jingwei invests in the 'Bamboo Instead of Plastic' project in Hunan, with an annual output of 4,800 tons

Recently, the People's Government of Lengshuitan District, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province, announced the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval public notice. The wholly-owned subsidiary of Shenzhen Huazhe Jingwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd. - Hunan Xiangshi Agricultural Technology Development Co., Ltd., applied for the Huazhe Xiangshi Tertiary Industry Linkage 'Bamboo Instead of Plastic' bio-based degradable materials project, which is proposed to be approved.

The total investment for this project is 8 million yuan. Once completed, it will have an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons of bio-based degradable polymer materials and become the core platform for Huazhe Jingwei's 'Bamboo Instead of Plastic' industry布局 in the Central China region.

The project is located in Phase I of the Smart Home Industrial Park in Lengshuitan District, covering an area of 5,000 square meters. It will build a complete production line including injection molding, film blowing, and bag making sections, equipped with 49 sets of key equipment such as injection molding machines, film blowers, and bag-making machines.

Of this, 1,200 tons will be used to produce bio-based degradable plastic packaging bags, 800 tons for degradable cutlery such as knives, forks, and spoons, and the remaining 1,000 tons of polymer material will be supplied externally, comprehensively covering key 'Bamboo Instead of Plastic' application scenarios in food packaging and daily consumer products. Currently, the 800-ton bio-based degradable cutlery production line has passed the environmental protection acceptance for completion; the other two production lines have not yet been constructed.

Based on market demand, the company has decided to use the available space in its existing plant, purchase the relevant production equipment, and increase the production capacity of bio-based degradable cutlery from the current annual output of 800 tons to 4,800 tons.

Huazhe Jingwei is a leading enterprise in the National Bio-based Application Demonstration Project and one of the top ten companies in China's biodegradable plastics industry. It owns multiple subsidiaries, including Shenzhen Huazhe, Shenzhen Hongcai, Chongqing Hongcai, Bengbu Huazhe, Xiangshi Agriculture in Hunan Province, Meizhou Hongcai, and more. The company has achieved mass production of over 300 categories of biodegradable products, covering the entire industry chain, including modified materials, catering utensils, and packaging products, and can comprehensively meet environmental replacement needs in various fields.

The company completed tens of millions in strategic financing in November 2024, led by Shenzhen Investment Holdings Donghai Co., Ltd., with additional investment from Egret Jiashi Dual-Carbon Fund. The funds from this round will be primarily used for mass production of upstream synthetic bio-additives, materials research and development, and capacity expansion.

Data shows that China's annual plastic production accounts for approximately 30% of the global total, with severe white pollution issues. Bamboo, as a renewable and biodegradable biomass material, has become an ideal alternative to plastic.

The "Three-Year Action Plan to Accelerate the Development of Bamboo-Based Plastic Alternatives" jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission and three other departments clearly sets out that by 2025, a preliminary bamboo-based plastic industry system should be established, with significant market share growth for key products. Hunan Province, as a major bamboo resource region, has in recent years actively promoted the full-chain development of the bamboo industry. Yongzhou City has even introduced special policies to support the growth and strengthening of bamboo and wood processing enterprises. The total output value of the city's bamboo industry has exceeded 5 billion yuan, directly creating employment for over 100,000 people. The establishment of Huazhe Jingwei's Hunan project will further完善 the local bamboo-based plastic industry chain, helping to build an ecologically prosperous industrial cluster.
