Can intelligent digitalization be achieved without spending a fortune? Huaxia Vision Technology helps printing companies connect the 'last mile'.

On September 18-19, 2025, the Printing and Packaging Industry Economic Forum and the National Printing Managers Annual Conference were grandly held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. At the conference, numerous industry experts delivered a series of wonderful presentations, inspiring new ideas and directions for the attendees. Next, we will gradually compile the highlights from the annual conference, with more exciting content to look forward to!

This edition features the speech by Jiang Yongquan, Senior Product Manager at Beijing Huaxia Shike Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Huaxia Shike), titled 'Practical Implementation of Building a Quality-oriented Intelligent Factory.'

Quality as the Foundation: The Digital Breakthrough for SMEsAs terms like "digital transformation" and "smart factories" become industry buzzwords, printing enterprises are transitioning from concepts to practical implementation. However, in practice, there is still a significant gap between "doing well" and "affording it."With continuous updates to printing workshop equipment and the gradual launch of new systems, large investments often fail to quickly translate into tangible benefits for enterprises. This is especially true for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), where constraints like funding, timelines, and technical reserves make the "last mile" the core pain point in implementing intelligent digital solutions."According to industry data, large printing enterprises with annual revenues exceeding 400 million RMB and more than 1,000 employees account for a very small proportion nationwide; most printing companies still fall into the SME category," points out Jiang Yongquan. These companies are not lacking in willingness to undergo digital transformation, but they need a more "lightweight" solution-one with low investment and quick results.Increasing industry practices indicate that "quality" might be the breakthrough point. Quality-driven smart factories cover prepress, printing, and postpress processes, promoting digitalization, informatization, and automation in workshops. This approach provides SMEs undergoing transformation with a low-threshold, high-efficiency practice model, helping them tackle the "last mile."**Using Quality as the Path: Building a Quality-Driven Smart Factory**In constructing a quality-oriented smart factory, Huaxia Shike has developed a fully closed-loop digital solution covering the entire process from inspection to production, warehousing, and logistics. In the prepress stage, the system ensures data consistency through file comparison and initial inspection processes. During printing, AI inspection workstations and online detection systems identify color deviations, register misalignment, and printing defects in real-time, with a maximum inspection speed of up to 45,000 sheets per hour. In the postpress stage, the six-surface book inspection system conducts full inspection at a speed of 15,000 books per hour, detecting issues such as lamination bubbles, empty glue, and folded corners, achieving full-process visibility of finished product quality. The collected inspection data is not only gathered but actively utilized. The AI inspection workstations connect production equipment, inspection devices, logistics, ERP, and MES systems, displaying data in real-time via inspection dashboards. Based on historical data analysis, they automatically generate optimization plans, continuously improving the yield of good products. Building on this, some enterprises have further extended intelligent applications to production logistics. For example, Liaoning Xinhua Printing Co., Ltd. uses an AGV system to link printing and binding workshops, enabling automatic cross-floor distribution and storage management, further enhancing on-site logistics intelligent coordination."Food is paramount to the people, and safety comes first." Data security is the cornerstone of system design. To meet SMEs' private data security needs, Huaxia Shike has established a protective system featuring "underlying encryption, automatic encryption, and seamless use," along with full-process operation monitoring. Enterprise managers can precisely track "who performed what operation on which file at what time and location," ensuring end-to-end data traceability.Currently, this data protection system has been successfully implemented in printing companies in multiple locations. Henan Xinhua Printing Group Co., Ltd. has overcome challenges of remote deployment; Phoenix Publishing & Media Group Plate-Making Company effectively addresses complex plate-making scenarios; and Nanjing Aide Printing Co., Ltd. achieves collaborative production with multiple subcontracted factories.Color consistency is an important indicator of printing quality. Addressing this challenge, Huaxia Shike developed an offline color inspection system based on a spectrophotometer and collaborated with X-Rite in the U.S. to establish higher precision standards within the industry. The system achieves high-precision measurement with ΔEab of 0.05, superior to the traditional 0.1 industry norm, and can automatically perform white balance calibration during six-axis movement, advancing color management from subjective experience to objective, quantifiable intelligent control.Whether it is full-process quality visualization, file security, or refined color management, these practices point to a common direction-making "quality" the starting point and core of digitalization. The essence of digital transformation is not simply automation replacement but systemic reconstruction centered on data. Today, printing enterprises are moving from "experience-based decision-making" to "data-driven decision-making." For SMEs in the printing and packaging sector undergoing transformation, digital construction based on quality is not a "downgrade choice" but a realistic breakthrough path-it turns digitalization from a concept into practice and from technology into productivity.
