As a relatively new printing industry in China, flexographic printing has achieved considerable growth in recent years. Water-based inks for flexographic printing are an environmentally friendly printing method that does not have the same level of contamination as gravure. Moreover, the cost of flexo printing is very low, and the printing quantity is surprisingly large. It can be applied to a variety of special materials for both sheet and roll materials, and is most suitable for packaging printing and printing of various labels.
Compared with the flexo printing products in Europe and America, the quality of flexographic printing in China is inferior. Why can't we print printed products that are as good as offset printing in foreign countries? It is not the quality of the flexo press. The main problem lies in the production of flexographic plates.
The biggest problem with flexographic printing is that the dot gain is too serious, so it is impossible to express the dot below 5%, and the middle and dark levels are also seriously lost. At the same time, overprinting is also difficult due to the ductility of the flexible plate.
In response to the above problems, the thermal direct flexographic technology makes the quality of flexo close to offset printing through various technical means, and the most important change is the plate itself.
The laser directly exposes the image on the carbon mask, so no film is needed, and no vacuum is required for printing. If you use the most advanced liquid photosensitive resin digital flexible plate, you can also do:
1) From 2% to 98% of the dots can be reproduced at the time of printing.
Due to the large pressure bearing area, the dot size is much smaller than that of the small mesh point. In the digital liquid flexo, since the height of the small dot is lower than that of the large dot, the dot gain of the small dot can be effectively controlled.
2) Reproducibly reproduce intermediate nodes.
3) The plate is cheaper.
4) The details in the highlights and shadows are preserved, and the flat and gradient nets are very smooth.
5) The UV plate printer and the plate processor are also required, and the customer's existing equipment investment will not be wasted.
Digital flexo always touches the printing material at the center point when printing. The traditional flexo is that the edge of the dot touches the printing material first, so it is easy to cause the hollow dot. Digital flexo does not have this problem.
Another way to effectively improve the quality of flexo printing is to use the Hybrid flexo screening technology. Simply put, the Hybrid screening technology uses the FM screening technology to add screens in the image highlights (10% to 15% of the dots), while using the traditional mid-tone and dark-tone parts (15% or more). AM screening technology is added to the network. The size of the FM screening dot is about 50 microns. After the mesh is added by Hybrid technology, the dot with a diameter of only 50 micrometers will have a relatively large wear at the tip of the plate, so it will be lower than the average height of the large dot. Reduce the expansion of outlets.
Canada's Creo and Israel's Sai Angel have their own thermal flexo plates before they merge. The combination of the two companies will provide a full range of thermal flexographic platesetters from eight-open format to ultra-large format (twice fully open) and seamless sleeve flexo.
