The CTP, which first appeared on Drupa in 1995, has gradually turned from popularity to maturity with the ups and downs. From the technical point of view, the most discussed is the quality problem, the development and application of photosensitive CTP and thermal CTP and its plate. The application of photosensitive violet laser CTP in the newspaper industry has become an indisputable fact, and thermal CTP in commercial printing has firmly established itself. The reason why thermal CTP is widely accepted is inseparable from its own excellent characteristics and the high quality of its products.


1 convenience of use. People are tired of operating in darkrooms, while thermal CTP uses infrared lasers to image with heat, allowing users to operate with confidence in the bright room.


2 The rationality of the structure. There are three main types of CTP structures: inner drum, outer drum and flat. The thermal CTP is mainly an external drum type. This structure allows the printing plate to be wrapped on the drum as if it were on the printing machine. The film is outward, the deformation of the dot is minimized, and the large-format printing plate is easier to handle.


3 quality stability. Photosensitive plates are very sensitive to light. Underexposure or overexposure occurs during exposure, halftone dots appear to be halo, and they are also affected by internal light interference, making publishing quality difficult to control; and thermal plates If the image is to be generated, the initial thermal energy value must be reached. The thermal energy higher than the initial domain value does not change the shape of the dot. It is the only technology that can control the predicted results. The quality is easy to control and the publishing quality is stable. After exposure, the plate can be extended to 6 months before being developed, with no effect on quality. Such as (Figure 1)


4 plates of high quality. The thermal CTP plate has a solid dot, sharp edges and clear edges. It is easier to achieve ink-and-wash balance during printing, which is convenient for dot control and high-quality printed matter. (as shown in Figure 2)


5 consumables saving. As competition in the printing market intensifies, saving supplies is a profit in disguise. The thermal CTP plate has the characteristics of solid dots, clear edges and easy ink. Compared with the traditional PS plate, a smaller amount of ink can achieve normal effects and save ink. Its printing durability can reach 150,000 to 200,000 impressions in the unbaked version, and up to 1 million impressions after baking. It is also suitable for matte paper and UV ink printing.


6 continued development. The thermal CTP version is by far the only plate that is free of flushing. Although it is just starting to be launched, it is very beneficial for investment and environmental protection because it is free of flushing or just washing, and it is suitable for existing thermal CTP equipment.


7 extensive selection of materials. Today, manufacturers of thermal plates on the market have more producers than violet laser plates, and there are also domestic production, so customers can have more choices and prices.


8 easy to use. Since thermal CTP has so many advantages, what is the practicality? Is operability very good? The answer is certainly yes. The thermal CTP is combined with an advanced digital printing process to achieve precise control of dot enlargement and deformation, and ink distribution. More importantly, the thermal plate can be fully adapted to the existing printing environment, and the printability is good (including printing pressure, plate cleaning agent, alcohol concentration and pH of dampening solution, etc.).


With the development of technology and the maturity of the market, thermal CTP and thermal plates will lead the plate to bid farewell to the dark room by virtue of their own strong advantages, guiding the printing industry to digital green printing, and users will eventually use CTP as their own.
