The director of offset printing ink technology of printing company, engaged in the printing industry for many years, is responsible for solving printing technology problems for customers, and has a deep understanding of printing consumables such as ink and dampening solution.
Many printer customers are also interested in eco-friendly inks, and they are all very concerned about whether this ink will become the dominant market in the future. The following questions and answers may increase your understanding of eco-friendly inks and find inspiration.
1. Is the "lead content" of the ink supplied on the market in line with the standard?
The first thing to define is what the standard is. EN71? ASTM? Or other standards? EN71 and ASTM
They are all relatively common standards, but there are still many other ones (for example: 94/62/EC and EU ROHS and many more). Some of the requirements are strict, not only the lead content of the test ink, but also the entire package is taken for testing.
"Lead content" is just a general term. In fact, it should be heavy metal content, including: lead, antimony, arsenic, commonly known as arsenic, barium, cadmium, Chromium, There are eight types of mercury (Mercury) and selenium (Selenium).
There are two interesting facts:
i. Metallic inks, such as gold and silver, have a heavy metal content that is standard.
Ii. The heavy metal content of most inks is standard, not just environmentally friendly inks.
2. What is the difference between environmentally friendly inks and ordinary inks?
To answer this question, first understand the composition of the ink. The ink is made up of pigments, additives (eg drier), resin, alkyd Alkyd and oil (eg mineral oil, soybean oil, linseed oil).
The environmentally friendly ink means that in the ink formulation, the oil component is a vegetable oil, for example, natural oil such as soybean oil or linseed oil, and thus the names are Bio, Soy, Eco.
And Oko et al.
Other aspects are no different from ordinary inks.
The customer is most concerned about the hue. Is the hue printed with environmentally friendly ink the same as ordinary ink? The answer is the same, even better. Because of the use of natural oils, pigments are more capable of expressing color in environmentally friendly inks, and are easier to achieve in ink balance adjustment.
3. Where are the various types of environmentally friendly inks?
Most of the environmentally friendly inks available on the market are named after what raw materials are used, such as Bio, Soy, Eco, Oko, etc.
They are only the proportion of vegetable oil used in it. Soy ink is defined as 20-30% soybean oil in the flat ink component, and other mineral oil, Bio ink
The definition is completely free of mineral oil, ie 100% is vegetable oil.
4. Will the price of environmentally friendly ink be very expensive?
Basically, the price of environmentally friendly inks is similar to that of ordinary inks.
Because natural oils (such as linseed oil) are abundantly supplied, unlike crude oil/mineral oils, there are certain restrictions and prices are not too volatile.
5. Is the supply of environmentally friendly inks sufficient? Will it be out of stock?
In fact, environmentally friendly inks (for example: Bio
Ink) has been in Europe for more than 15 years, producing and supplying the same as regular ink. Some manufacturers will go in the direction of environmental protection when producing new series of inks, so supply will not be a problem.
6. Is there an environmentally friendly ink fountain with ink or dumb oil?
The ink fountains made from 100% vegetable oil are supplied with varnish and dumb oil, mainly European brands.
7. If you use environmentally friendly inks and then switch to ordinary inks, will there be any problems?
Eco-friendly inks can be applied to any press without any modification or special cleaning agents. Basically, customers can use environmentally friendly inks in their entirety, even if they want to convert inks, the processing is the same as ordinary inks.
In summary, most manufacturers or manufacturers refer to inks containing vegetable oil as environmentally friendly inks. Secondly, it is natural that the heavy metal content can meet international standards.
In fact, one thing more important is the content of VOC (Volatile Organic Compound). VOC
That is, volatile organic compounds, which pollute the air and cause great harm to humans. The Environmental Protection Department is drafting legislation to regulate the VOC content in printing inks.
In the future, when you buy eco-friendly printing inks, you may wish to consider this point.
