Save tens of thousands at once! Domestic alternatives for imported offset printing machine partsinfo-1-1

Heidelberg offset presses have high printing accuracy and excellent stability, but long-term maintenance, repairs, and the cost of parts are very high. Moreover, many of the parts are specialized, which means there are few supply channels and long lead times, significantly affecting equipment maintenance. Therefore, it's necessary to study commonly used parts and implement self-manufacturing or domestic alternatives.

Through my long-term practice, except for particularly critical components that can't be replaced, other parts like rubber rollers, intermediate rollers, cylinders, drive belts, and ink roller holders can all be self-manufactured or substituted with domestic versions. The performance of these replacement parts can match that of the original imported parts, but at just a fraction of the price.

01/ Intermediate roller shaft ends of the offset press

For example, the shaft ends of the intermediate rollers in an offset press are among the most easily worn parts during use. Over time, the shaft ends wear down and affect printing accuracy. Replacing them with original parts is quite expensive.

To address this, you can focus on the wear-prone nature of the parts. Among common metal materials, bearing steel is strong and wear-resistant. Using an ordinary lathe, grinder, and milling machine, you can process the shape and dimensions; after high-frequency quenching the surface and ends and then finishing precision machining, you can produce a qualified part (Figure 1 shows the modified part drawing). From our long-term use, we found that these replacement parts work perfectly, have a long lifespan, and are very cost-effective.

02/ Cylinder of the Offset Printing Press

Looking at the cylinder, the cylinders of Heidelberg offset presses are mostly FESTO brand, and their shape and specific dimensions differ from standard cylinders. Also, the cylinders on each color unit are quite prone to damage. So, if a cylinder breaks, you can only buy it from the manufacturer, and the price they quote is ridiculously high, which increases maintenance costs for customers.

To address this problem, we really just need to consider the quality of the cylinder, know the bore and stroke of the original machine's cylinder, and then compare it to standard cylinders. By making small modifications or adjustments to the tailstock and rod connection parts of commonly used standard cylinders, we can completely replace them with standard ones. This not only reduces maintenance costs but also makes maintenance much more convenient (Figure 2 shows the modified cylinder diagram).

The replaceable parts are not limited to the two examples mentioned above. As long as you understand the equipment's principles, the role of each part, and the material and manufacturing process of the parts during daily equipment management, you can confidently carry out part replacements. This not only saves costs but also takes the refinement of equipment management to a higher level.
