Although the technology of frequency modulation network has been developed during the period, it has attracted the attention of the industry. The difficulty in the operation of printing conditions has not been widely adopted. Today, entering the CTP digital era, the market tends to high-definition, high-quality printing quality, a brand new dot technology came into being.


AM Screening


At present, the traditional network used in color plate making is called AM Screening. The original text is called Amplitude Modulation Screening (Figure 1). This includes square mesh, chain net, circular net and so on. In the case where the position and arrangement angle of the dots are fixed, the size of the dots is used to express the depth of the image.


It needs to control the density and mesh angle of the network cable. The angle of the two color plates must be 30 degrees or more to avoid the collision of the net. Usually the C version is placed at 15 degrees, M version: 45 degrees, K version. : 75 degrees (M version or BK version can be changed), and the Y version is placed at 90 degrees. In this case, the Y version will be separated from other color plates by only 15 degrees. Since it is lighter than the other three colors, even if there is a collision net, Not obvious.


On the one hand, AM Screening can achieve stable printing reproduction, and at the same time it is easy to produce Rosette, interference between Moires, Tone jump, text and subtle reproducibility. . In addition, extremely high overprint accuracy is required in terms of printing.


FM Screening


A few years ago, various Image setter manufacturers developed a frequency called FM (FM Screening), the full text is Frequency Modulation Screening (Figure 2). The diameters of these fine dots are between 8-30 microns, and the size of each fine dot is the same. The expression of the color depth is different from that of the amplitude modulation dot. The density of the image is expressed by the density. The density of the dots is larger, and the color is darker. The method is to make this fine point randomly distributed.


FM Screening has the advantages:

1. There will be no collision nets or net flowers.

2. The resulting small dots can show more details.

3. Eliminate the Tone jump of the midtones.

4. The registration problem does not affect the color balance.


The disadvantages of FM Screening:

1. Light level and peace net are prone to rough and grainy.

2. The mid-tone dot density is extremely high, and the dot enlargement rate is difficult to control.

3. Highly precise and demanding printing conditions are required.

4. The stability of the film output, the reproducibility and clarity of the fine dots.

5. When printing, the light position is easy to lose, and the deep position is easy to block.


Hybrid AM/FM Screening


In the 1-10% light level and the 90-99% deep position, it will use the same size of fine mesh points as FM Screening (Figure 3), and express the picture through the density of these dots. The level change in the middle, in the middle part of 10-90%, will change the size of the dot like AM Screening. However, the location of all the outlets is random, so there is no need to consider the "network angle" problem.


Light position and deep position


The position of the light and the deep part are randomly distributed, and the size of different dots will be different, thus showing the change of the level in the picture. It is worth noting that the position of the dot is specially calculated to ensure Will not overlap each other, and there will be no excessive gap between the dots. This prevents coarse graininess.


When the resolution of the output device is 2400dpi, the minimum dot diameter is about 10.5 microns (ie 1/2400 inch). Although these fine dots can be exposed on the printing plate, the unstable factors in the printing process often lead to the loss of the image. . However, the calculation method of this new type of dot is to combine a plurality of small dots into one larger dot, and two or three minimum dots (each having a diameter of 10.5 micrometers) are combined to form a large dot having a diameter of 21 or 32 micrometers. . Such a size of the point is suitable for printing, and can improve the reproducibility and stability of printing.

Midtone part


In the middle adjustment part, the position of the dot will be randomly arranged like FM Screening, but the depth of the layer is expressed by the way of AM Screening, that is, by the change of the size of the dot, the shape of these dots is very smooth due to advanced calculation. Therefore, printing adaptability will be better. In addition, a special way is adopted to prevent the overlap of the dots, which in turn solves the problem of coarse graininess.


Features of the AM/FM hybrid network:


This revolutionary network not only can significantly improve the printing quality, but does not affect the production efficiency. It only needs to follow the conventional 2400dpi/175lpi production process and equipment to achieve the printing quality of 300lpi high-line dots. In the past, when implementing high-line dot printing, each process must be strictly controlled.


Improve print quality


1. The lines of the map, the hair of the character and the delicate lace are clearer, without jagged edges and broken lines.

2. Thoroughly avoid the problem of cloth collision, screen, sound and wood grain on the clothing and the pattern and the netting are interlaced.

3. Eliminate the appearance of large black spots or light backgrounds.

4. The gradient effect is more natural, and the flat screen and light level are smoother.

5. Improve the color of clothes, fruits, flowers and other items.
