The color management that is often hanged on people's lips is actually the management of the transfer of color space (such as scanners, computer screens, printers, etc.); but the printers have always been trying to practice color consistency, repeatability, or Stability management is not included in the current popular color management. It is important to note that the two are different. If the actual production process focuses on only one side, it is difficult to grasp the quality control and stability.


Must be both


The current CMS is actually only able to achieve a visually close and consistent effect when colors appear on different media (spaces), but it cannot manage to maintain stable reproducibility when colors appear in the same space. . That is, after a picture is scanned and actually printed, the color effect can be approximated, but there is no guarantee that the second sheet printed again can be close to the first sheet. Therefore, it is extended to the use of the same set of film at different times, whether the printed products can be consistent, which involves the scope of the process control of the printing process, but no one realizes that this is actually color management. One part. From this assumption, even if the color space transfer management can be properly preserved, the color repeatability and consistency management are neglected, and the desired effect may not be achieved at the time of printing. Therefore, the color control of practice should be both.

Factors other than density


For the printer, the quality of the printed matter is digitized and recorded, and the density of the dots is often used. Because most people think that if the density of the dots can be controlled, it means that other factors have been controlled.

However, the instrument measures the color of the printed matter, in addition to the density, it is also known: 1 • dot gain, if the dot is large, the density will be increased; 2 • the effect of color overlap (trapping); The color deviation (hueerror) and the contrast between the two colors (color), if you can master the data well, you can know the characteristics of the printing process, thus improving the color stability of the printed matter.


How to communicate with color data


However, many people will encounter a question: the data measured by different color measuring instruments are different, so which data should be used? In fact, the color numbers measured by different color measuring instruments are different, so when communicating with color data, you must pay attention to several restrictions. First of all, both parties need to use the same brand and model of color measuring instrument, in addition to measure under the same light source, even under the same temperature and humidity, etc., in order to be sure that the two sides will not go wrong. Therefore, it is more meaningful to use the same colorimeter to obtain data.


Some companies' quality control relies only on the master's color. Therefore, when they want to do the same prints again and change the masters, it is difficult to get back the past results. Even though some companies use color measuring instruments to measure color, they do not. Recording those data will be unfounded next time, so it is a necessary step to record and count the data.
