Prepress typesetting tutorials
CorelDRAW is a powerful and comprehensive software package, with a variety of functions such as graphic drawing, image processing, web page production, typography, cartoon animation, etc.
One of the most widely used places in China is that CorelDRAW is applied to the preliminary work of printing and typesetting of publications, commonly known as prepress operations. Although this is only a part of the functions of CorelDRAW, we will also habitually call other software when dealing with other tasks, such as Photoshop immediately for images, Dreamweaver for web pages, Flash for animations, etc. So here, I will take a small card as an example, from the layout of the figure to the drawing of the knife pattern to give a brief introduction.
Imposition work:
Before printing and typesetting, we must first conduct some analysis of the work object, such as what paper to use, what printing press to prepare, what process to use, whether to carry out any artistic processing or what special process, and so on. For the sake of space, I'll skip these.
1. Open the CorelDRAW software, and the system will automatically create a "Figure 1" file.
2. Select the fifth digit from the toolbox on the left - the rectangle tool, and draw a rectangle in the blank space next to the paper specified by the system, with no size limit. Then change its size to 125 x 185mm on the Properties toolbar (the finished size will be 120 x 175mm when folded in half)
3. Use the selection tool to select the rectangle just drawn, hold down the Ctrl key and drag the rectangle to the left with the mouse, and when a rectangular box with the same rectangle appears on the screen, the left button will not let go and press the right button, that is, another rectangle with the same will appear on the left side of the original rectangle.
4. Put a processed picture in the box on the right, and add the company information text in the lower part of the box on the left. Form a card pattern.
5. Select all the objects on the card and press Ctrl+G or the "Group" item under the "Arrangement" menu. Group each object so that it becomes one object. In order to facilitate the operation of subsequent projects.
6. Select the selection tool, draw a rectangle in a blank space, and adjust the size to 546 x 787mm (positive folio paper size to represent the paper).
7. Draw a rectangle in the frame of the folio paper, with a size of 526 x 777mm (5mm bleeding on the upper and lower sides, 15mm bite on the left, and 5mm bleeding on the right, indicating that this is the printing plate core, that is, the effective printing area). Select both rectangles, select Align & Distribute in the Arrangement menu, and select Right for horizontal items and Medium for vertical items in the pop-up dialog box to align the two rectangles.
8. Because after the previous step, the right sides of the two rectangles are close together, but we require a distance of 5mm from each other, so we need to adjust. If it is adjusted manually, its position is not accurate enough. Select the "Pick" tool, adjust the fine-tuning distance on the properties toolbar to 5mm when the corrector does not select any object, then select the 526 x 777mm rectangle, and press the left arrow, which is 5mm away from the other rectangle, so that there is also a 5mm bleed on the right side of the paper.
9. Because the finished size of the card is 120 x 175mm after folding, plus the bleeding bit, the complete size of the design draft is 250 x 185mm. The next step is to put the cards onto the paper. Select the grouped cards, then select the inner box on the paper, select "Align and Distribute" in the "Arrangement" menu, check "Left" for horizontal items, and "Up" for vertical items to align the cards with the upper left corner of the inner box; Select the card, copy and paste, and then adjust the rotation value to 180 in the property bar to flip it so that the pattern parts of the two cards are opposite; Adjust the fine-tuning distance to 250mm, select the card pasted on it, press the right arrow, and the two cards will become the pattern to the pattern arrangement, this method is called "head to head" imposition.
Because the relationship between temperature and humidity often causes the expansion and contraction of the paper during printing, in order to minimize the appearance of inaccurate registration due to this reason, we should try to put the part of the pattern or color complex close to the bite position. After the first row above is arranged, then call the "Transform" option in the "Arrangement" menu, in the pop-up dialog box, set the vertical distance to the height value of the card 185mm, because we want to move it down, so we want to set it to -185mm, then select the two cards and press "Apply to remade object", each time you press it will copy a pair of cards downward, and the position is also very accurate. After pressing three times in a row, four pairs of eight cards appeared on the board, and the paper could no longer be arranged.
At this point, the imposition is complete. If you want to reduce the waste of paper, we can use pen and paper to budget before imposing, such as this example, the printing surface size of the card after spelling eight molds is 500 x 740mm, and the folio size of positive paper is 546 x 787mm, the folio layout of large paper is 597 x 889mm, and the folio size of special paper is 444 x 634mm, Obviously, it seems that the waste of using other papers is greater, so it is better to use positive paper.
Drawing of knife mold diagrams
The completion of the imposition does not mean that the typesetting work is over, we have another very important work - the drawing of the knife mold drawing.
After the printing process is completed, each print must be divided into finished products one by one, such as the imposition example above, which must be divided into eight finished cards after the completion of printing. It is impossible to cut with scissors when dividing, we have to make another version - the knife template. Of course, in the general printing factory, there is no need to make the knife mold by yourself, you only need to draw the knife mold line, and then send it to the knife mold factory, and the knife mold factory will make the knife version, and then take it back to the beer machine to press the beer, and then remove the paper edge and stack it neatly to hand it over to the customer.
The drawing of the knife die line is completed on the basis of the printing plate, in fact, it is to draw the line of the actual finished product size on a layout containing bleeding bits (no need to fill in the color), let's start the drawing of the knife die line:
1. The size of the finished card we set above is 120 x 175mm after folding, and 250 x 185mm (including bleeding) when unfolded.
2. Use the rectangle tool to draw a rectangle, the size is 239 x 175mm, select the rectangle and then select the card in the upper left corner of the printing plate, press the "C" key to align vertically, press the "E" key to align horizontally, the rectangle is in the center of the card. Adjust the fine-tuning distance value to 0.5mm, select the rectangle you just drawn, and press the right arrow to move it 0.5mm to the right (because the rectangle has been reduced, if you don't move 0.5mm to the right, there will be bleeding of 5.5mm on each side, but our goal is to bleed 5mm on the right and 6mm on the left). Select the Béz Curve tool, draw a line with a vertical height of 175mm, and align it vertically to the right of the rectangle, adjust the fine-tuning value to 120mm, select the vertical line, and press the left arrow, which divides the rectangle into 120mm on the right and 119mm on the left. Here, the front side is divided into 120mm, and the back is set to 119mm, because it is afraid that the back side will exceed the front due to the inaccurate overlay after the beer press, and after reducing the processing of 1-2mm, you will not worry about the defect that the finished product will have an open back (that is, the paper on the back can be seen from the front of the card face).
3. Select the rectangle (the border is set as a solid line, indicating that it needs to be cut) and the vertical line (the border is set as a dotted line, indicating that it is only indented and not cut) and group it into an object, call the "Deformation" dialog box in "Arrangement", set the vertical value to -185mm and the horizontal value to 0 in the "Position" item, and then click "Apply to Remade Object" three times, and the card knife mold line on the left is basically completed; Select the four newly created rectangles, set the horizontal value of 249mm and the vertical item to 0 in the "Deform" dialog box, and then click "Apply to Remade Object" to copy the other four die lines; Removing the eight card patterns and the positioning rectangles that previously set the bite and bleeding points, the result is only eight rectangles left on the paper.
At this point, the printing plate and the knife template are completed, and the follow-up work is to produce the film, and the normal printing of blue, magenta, yellow, and black four color sheets plus a knife mold sheet, if you want to add any other process, you can add another film as needed. Because the production and plate making belong to the work of the publishing room, the prepress operation ends here. (The bleeding set here is 5mm on the top and bottom sides, adding up to a total of 10mm of bleeding, because the printing of large sheets of paper should take care of the fact that the paper may be expanded and deformed due to the relationship between temperature and humidity, resulting in inaccurate nesting or cutting.) 3mm bleeding is only used when there is no way, and it is generally better to use 5mm. Generally, we usually use 3mm bleeding for design, but if the paper is thicker or packaging, I recommend using 5mm bleeding, but it is best to do a good job of bleeding cutting line yourself, because the output company is used to helping you add 3mm cutting line. This imposition is to try not to waste paper, is eight open paper printing, we provide such film to others, if not imposition, then to output a few copies of film, let the printing house to impose. )
Imposition page order talk
Let's first introduce some commonly used layouts: the size is based on the large degree of sixteen open (210 ╳ 285mm) as an example, and the size after the imposition is large four open. Due to time constraints, the corner lines and cut lines are not indicated here, and only the page method of imposition is provided.
Let's start with the simplest one-sided introduction of the leaflet: the magnanimity of the single page is usually 216mmx291mm (including bleeding), and the size of the four open after the imposition is 432x582mm (including bleeding), and the layout is as follows:
Large-scale 16-page single-page double-sided layout: size 216mmx291mm (including bleeding), imposition size 432x582mm (including bleeding), layout order is as follows:
Four pages, in the order of cover, cover 2, cover 3, and back cover. The size is: 213mmx291mm (including bleeding), the size of the imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding), and the layout order is as follows:
Eight pages, in the order of front cover, cover 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, cover 3, back cover. The size is: 213mmx291mm (including bleeding), the size of the imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding), and the binding method is: riding nails. The layout order is as follows:

Sixteen pages, in the order of cover, cover two, and ,...... 12, cover three, back cover. The size is: 213mmx291mm (including bleeding), the size of the imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding), the binding method is: saddle nails, and the layout order is as follows:
Twenty pages, in the order of cover, cover two, and ,...... 16, cover three, back cover. Dimensions: 213mmx291mm (including bleeding). The size of the imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding). The binding method is: riding nails. The layout order is as follows:
Twenty-four pages, in the order of cover, cover two, and ,...... 20, cover three, back cover. Dimensions: 213mmx291mm (including bleeding). The size of the imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding). The binding method is: riding nails. The layout order is as follows:
Twenty-eight pages, in the order of cover, cover 2, 1,...... 24, cover three, back cover. Dimensions: 213mmx291mm (including bleeding). The size of the imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding). The binding method is: riding nails. The layout order is as follows:
Thirty-two pages, in the order of cover, cover two, and ,...... 28, cover three, back cover. The cover imposition is correspondingly spine-liked. The size of the inner page imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding). The binding method is: shrinkage and perfect binding. The layout order is as follows:
Thirty-six pages, in the order of cover, cover two, and ,...... 32, cover three, back cover. The cover imposition is correspondingly spine-liked. The size of the inner page imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding). The binding method is: shrinkage and perfect binding. The layout order is as follows:
Forty pages, in the order of cover, cover two, and ,...... 36, cover three, back cover. The cover imposition is correspondingly spine-liked. The size of the inner page imposition is: 426mmx582mm (including bleeding). The binding method is: shrinkage and perfect binding. The layout order is as follows:
Forty folios, forty pages, in the order of cover, cover, cover, and ,...... 36, cover three, back cover. The cover imposition is correspondingly spine-liked. The size of the imposition is: 852mmx582mm. The layout order is as follows:
Forty pages are folio, the first four folds are large turns, and the last one is a small turn. In addition to the difference in size, the layout style is exactly the same as the magnanimity 16.
Folding method: fold to see the need for 8P a paste or 16P a sticker, generally speaking, 8P a paste is often used in a wireless way, 16P a paste is often a lock line binding (large album). The P number of albums and books is generally a multiple of 4, so when we make folding samples, we often only need to make one (main sticker) to two (special stickers) is enough. I once saw a wide company make a picture album of more than 100P, using a lot of A4 paper, and it was a waste to fold out all the page numbers, and it was not necessary. When folding normally, remember that no matter how you fold, the bottom right corner is the first page.
Binding. Generally, it is divided into riding binding, flat binding, sewing glue binding, and wireless glue binding. Our common magazines are bound on horseback; Wire-bound books and wire-bound books belong to flat binding; Glue binding is often used for large albums, which are firm, but the binding speed is slow; Cordless bindings are often used for high-end small albums, and books that are too thick are easy to degum after multiple folding.
