PageMaker is a cross-platform professional page design software produced by Adobe. In the field of graphic design, PageMaker has become the preferred version of the software for professionals and has been widely praised. However, compared with some other typesetting software, PageMaker only provides simple graphic drawing, which is undoubtedly a pity for PageMaker with powerful grouping capabilities. Especially when making some layouts with more auxiliary graphics, PageMaker can't do anything about it.
Corel's CorelDraw is a world-class flat vector drawing software that is widely used by professional designers. Its integrated environment provides advanced tools and the most convenient tools for graphic design. Especially its powerful graphics drawing ability, sought after by designers. CorelDraw itself also has powerful typographic features, especially in advertising typesetting, but if you want CorelDraw to take on the task of multi-page text layout, I am afraid it is not as competent as PageMaker.
Since both PageMaker and CorelDraw have their own advantages and disadvantages, why not combine the two to achieve the complementary advantages of software? Let's take a look at the header and footer processing in book layout as an example to explain how to make CorelDraw and PageMaker perfectly combined.
First, the need of PageMaker
In page layout, especially when arranging the pages of some books, in order to beautify the layout, graphics and some navigation texts are often added to the header or footer of the page.
If these graphics are limited to basic graphics such as lines, simple rectangles, and circles, PageMaker can be created by itself, but if it is a little more complicated, such as gradient fills, complicated curves, etc., PageMaker may only stop and look!
What should I do if I encounter such a situation?
Second, use CorelDraw to meet
In practical applications, there are generally two ways to do this:
One is that pages and footers in PageMaker are all handed over to CorelDraw. According to PageMaker's page requirements, CorelDraw sets the page size and the margins of the top, bottom, left, and right. After the header and footer are all completed, the middle part of the document is empty. Export the entire page directly for use by PageMaker. The advantage of this is that you can pre-view the overall layout of the page in CorelDraw and make adjustments as appropriate. The shortcomings are also obvious. When there is a slight change or adjustment in PageMaker, it has to be re-executed in CorelDraw, making the modification inconvenient. Moreover, when setting page and margins in CorelDraw, it is quite accurate. Otherwise, after being placed in PageMaker, deviation will occur.
The second way is to simply submit the map that can't be made in PageMaker to CorelDraw. For example, there are two more complicated graphs. After completing in CorelDraw, each graph is exported as a separate file for PageMaker. To make selections and settings. This method is more flexible. Moreover, many objects that PageMaker can handle, such as text and line segments, let PageMaker handle it by itself. The effect after printing is better than that given to CorelDraw.
Here, you can combine the above two methods, first set the page size and margins in CorelDraw, complete the header and footer, and preview the overall layout of the page. After meeting our requirements, select the graphics you want to make in CorelDraw (here, we'd better enlarge the graphics), then select the "Export" menu item under the "File" menu to bring up the "Export" dialog.
Enter the exported file name in the File Name input box, select "WMF-Windows Metafile" in the "Save as type" drop-down list, and select the "Selected Only" check box. Once the setup is complete, click the "Export" button.
Third, the application in PageMaker
After exporting the WMF file in CorelDraw, PageMaker can be applied.
Open the file you want to type (the page size and margins are already set) and click the home icon to go to the home page.
Select the "Import" menu item on the "File" menu and select the WMF file you just exported in CorelDraw in the pop-up dialog box.
Resize and position it, and the rest, such as text, line segments, etc., directly using the corresponding tools in PageMaker.
After drawing the graphics that need to be created with PageMaker and inputting other textual information that should be present, such as page numbers, the header and footer design is complete.
Fourth, pay attention to
(1) Other graphics in PageMaker can still be produced by CorelDraw, and when exporting, we can also export to various formats such as JPG, GIF, BMP, etc. as needed.
(2) In order to make the printed graphics better, the graphics in CorelDraw are preferably exported at a ratio larger than the actual size. PageMaker can be reduced after importing.
(3) Since PageMaker is still in the "image link" mode when importing, the created graphic must be in the same directory as the PageMaker file.
