PageMaker is a suite of software from Adobe that supports two International Color Consortium (ICC) compatible systems: the Kodak color management system on Macintosh and Windows platforms and the Color Sync2.x standard on the Macintosh platform.

PageMaker's color management system manages the color applied to PageMaker objects, the colors in RGB bitmap images, and the special colors of EPS files. Color management of RGB screen images of a CMYK TIFF file enables output to a color-mixed proofing device. The corrected color can also be changed to a CMYK TIFF target official output device. Color management of DCS, WMF, and PICT files is not possible.

Below we introduce the opening and closing control of the PageMaker Color Management System (CMS).

1. Open the color management system

When you use PageMaker to open the CMS, the system will change and transfer the color information transmitted in the input, display, color separation and printing to minimize color distortion. When the CMS is opened, other CMS systems should be turned off, otherwise chaotic results will occur.

(1) Select "File / Custom Format / General".

(2) Click "CMS Settings (CMSPreferences)".

(3) Select "Open" from the "Color Management" drop-down menu.

(4) Click "OK" to open the color management system.

2. Turn off the color management system

(1) Overall shutdown of the color management system

A. The color management system can be turned off as a whole under the following conditions:

1 Do not use bitmap images in publications and only use special colors.

2 Only use CMYK color images that have been subjected to color separation processing.

3 Import only includes graphics that contain only DCS files and EPS files for process colors.

4 Use the post-processing application to create a separation of the publication.

B. Steps to turn off the color management system as a whole:

1Select the "File / Custom Format / General" command.

2Click the "CMS Settings" button.

3Select “Off” from the “Color Management” drop-down menu.

4Click the "OK" button.

(2) Partially closed color management system

When you don't want to manage the color of a particular image, you can turn off the color management of the image file, allowing the color information of the file to pass through the CMS without having to change. The color information is still useful for the output device, but is not color managed by PageMaker's CMS.

A. The color management system can be partially turned off under the following conditions:

1 A CMYK TIFF image file created in image processing software, such as Photoshop, and directed to the official output device.

2 The image is color separated by the orientation device feature, and only the low resolution image is used to set the layout and positioning.

B. Steps to partially turn off the color management system:

1Select an image.

2 Select “Component/Image/CMS Source”.

3 Select “None” from the “This Item Uses” drop-down menu.
