The offset ink layer is thin. When printing gold on the ground and thick lines, two consecutive printing or two step printing processes are often used to achieve the saturation of the semi-strong ink layer and the metallic luster effect. The printing suitability of silver ink is better than that of gold ink. It only needs one printing to basically meet the requirements of general packaging printed matter. If you need large area printing silver or the paper used is poor, you need to take two printing methods. To give a nice silvery look. Pay attention to the following when printing gold (silver) ink on the offset press.
1. Choose the bottom and reprint gold (silver) ink
When printing gold ink with an offset printing machine, it is generally necessary to print a base color (commonly known as bottoming), that is, an ink having a strong hiding power, a color similar to that of gold (silver) ink is used as a base color, and then gold is printed on the ground color ink layer. (Silver) ink can not only save gold (silver) ink, but also improve the gloss of gold (silver) ink layer and enhance the printing effect of gold (silver) ink.
2. Gold (silver) ink on the ground color ink
The quality of the background color printing is an important factor in determining the printing quality of gold (silver) ink. Therefore, the layout of the printing base ink should be flat, the viscosity of the ground color ink should be high, the drying property should be moderate, and the ink layer should be thick. The drying method of the ground color ink is preferably combined with osmotic drying and oxidative conjunctival drying, and crystallization of the underlying ink layer is avoided.
When printing gold (silver) ink, it should be overprinted if the underlying ink layer is not completely dried. Otherwise, gold (silver) ink may not be printed, or the adhesion fastness may be poor, and the rubbing may fall off.
3. Overprint other ink on the gold (silver) ink layer
In addition to its metallic luster, gold powder has a reflective effect on light. If other colors of ink are printed on the gold ink layer, it will affect the metallic luster effect of the gold ink layer. Therefore, this should be taken into account in the design of the printing process, making full use of the characteristics of high opacity and strong hiding power of gold ink, reasonable arrangement of printing color sequence, and arrangement of gold ink in the last color sequence. If you must overprint other colors of ink on the gold ink, the area of the graphic should be as small as possible, so that it will not affect the effect of the gold ink, but also prevent the printing defects such as poor printing.
