Editor's note: "We just don't have enough budget." This sentence seems to have become a mantra that we can almost hear.

Reducing the number of pages and the number of prints does help you maintain your budget, but when all production processes are over, we still want our designs to draw the attention of readers and influence their emotions.

In order to achieve this, we can try to enter the world of specialty paper.

Metal paper

Ordinary paper can shine with the help of colorless mica crystals. If fine mica particles are used on uncoated white or colored paper, they can give these papers a unique glow. Although the paper looks like metal, they don't actually use metal.

The various lusters of metal paper (from white to dark shades of different tones) allow you to make the most of your imagination and to take wings for your dreams.

Translucent paper

Translucent papers have a long history of development, and they were originally used to produce advertising flyers. Like pearl paper and metal paper, translucent paper is also very rich in color, which can bring distinctive visual effects to printed materials such as business cards, invitations and marketing materials.

In addition, the color, texture and weight choice of translucent paper has also grown significantly in recent years, whether you choose Cromática, Chartham Translucent, Curious Translucents, Gilclear, UV ULTRA II or Glama Natural, you can bring you A beautiful enjoyment.

If you can add a translucent ad page with a strong contrast to a normal black and white manual, with a simple spot color or plain embossing (embossing), you will be able to impress your readers.

Special touch

The European market is very good at and willing to use paper with special textures, which also promotes the revival of traditional straight paper. The imprinting of the new pattern during the production of the paper causes the surface of the paper to have a raised or concave texture.

New textures give paper a new life, some of which look and feel like leather; others are almost identical to rubber. They not only make prints more aesthetically pleasing, but they are also suitable for a variety of printing processes, including embossing and die cutting.

Alternative paper

Paper made from alternative fibers such as beer, kenaf, coffee, garlic and bananas has been around for many years. Now, a piece of paper made of stone, or more precisely minerals, has become a new member of this family.

Tree-free papers such as TerraSkin, ViaStone and PapeRock are being shipped from Asia to the rest of the world. As early as 1999, this paper was produced in Asia. Its main ingredient is calcium carbonate, which we find in a variety of rocks (limestones) that are common in nature.

Mineral paper is not only easy to tear, but also has good waterproof properties. It does not absorb ink like traditional paper, so it can save about 20% to 30% of ink. In addition, mineral paper can give people a special feeling: smooth like a cream, it feels very cold. As long as you see it at first sight, you will realize that it is different.

Synthetic paper

Synthetic paper has much in common with mineral paper. These papers are made from polypropylene and inorganic fillers rather than traditional wood fibers.

Synthetic papers are printed in much the same way as traditional papers, which have outstanding durability, water resistance and abrasion resistance. Synthetic paper does not distort when soaked in water, making them ideal for products such as maps, membership cards and menus.

Summary: Specialty papers may be more expensive than standard paper, but they are definitely within acceptable limits, especially if you consider their impact on design. There are many types of specialty papers, and you can try them one by one.

Whether they're attracting your eye through reflected light or touch, these exciting papers really enhance your design and add a sparkle to your work.
