In the 1990s, when it was internationally known as the powder science, during this period, according to the development of powder technology, high-grade color film, color video tape, tape and other products came into being, enriching people's lives and entertainment. The printing industry is no exception, and the benefits of powder technology advancement are not slim. This article describes the application of dusting imaging technology.
Color printing status in Photo office environment
In today's office environment, the demand for color printing has increased, but the current situation is that color printers with balanced cost and performance have not yet been commercialized, and black-and-white printers are still the mainstream. The popularity of the Internet, the advancement of calculators and intelligence technology, can expect the office to become paperless, but the current reality is that the amount of printing paper in the office has increased. Moreover, it is highly desirable to have a ready-to-use press for the desired document class, a printable on-demand press, and a versatile device that combines copying and faxing. In pursuit of higher quality documents and data, we are trying to find ways to match existing black and white printing presses and achieve higher printing speeds and lower costs. The following is a description of the color printing using the dusting technology, indicating that it is possible to comprehensively solve the above problems. In the near future, it is expected that this technology will become the mainstream of printing equipment in the office environment.
Dusting printing structure
The following four items can be achieved by dusting.
1. Comprehensive color printing

Powder spraying is a direct printing using a toner directly onto a recording medium such as paper. It is completely possible to achieve stable high-quality printing at a low cost.
The structure of the powder-printing printing is as shown in Fig. 1. The charged toner is sprayed toward the back electrode which is applied with a high voltage of 1 kV through a thin substrate (FPC) having fine pores, and adhered to the paper passing between the FPC and the back electrode. For the micro hole arranged on the FPC, a ring electrode is provided, and the voltage is controlled by an exciter to eject the toner, and the toner adhered to the paper constitutes a fine pip, which is attached to the ring electrode passing through the periphery. The dots together form the text and images, and then, like the laser printer, the toner is fixed on the paper by pressure and heat, while the FPC is purified in preparation for the next printing.
Spray printing characteristics
(1) Less misalignment of colors
In Photo color printing, due to the deviation of the toner position, it will become a color misalignment, which will affect the image quality. In the case of dusting, as shown in Fig. 2, on a precision frame, four-color printing heads are arranged in series, and only the recording medium is moved during the developing stroke. Therefore, it is possible to improve the accuracy and reduce the occurrence of chromatic aberration. At the same time, the purpose of reducing the manufacturing cost is achieved by simplifying the structure.
(2) Resolution
At present, the dusting technology has reached a good image quality of 600dpi. Even if it is possible to reach 1200dpi, Aray, as mentioned later, in order to improve the quality of the photographic quality, it is better to use the multi-step grading scale to complete the printing in order to improve the resolution, and the development focus is on the latter.
(3) gray ladder
Photo's multi-step graying step is actually one of the biggest advantages of dusting. As shown in Fig. 3, with the pulse modulation method, the gray scale equivalent to the point portion can be finely adjusted to obtain excellent image quality with a lower resolution. At present, the development is still carried out with the gray scale of the eighth-order tone, and the technology for realizing the sixteenth tone is being explored.
(4) High-speed printing
High-speed printing is possible. Current development, A4 specifications
The full color is 12 to 16 sheets per minute, which is the same speed as a standard office black and white laser printer. If you do a simple desktop calculation, the potential for dusting is 600μpi resolution, 100μs for printing pulses, A4 specifications
The full color is 84 pieces per minute. In fact, from the point of view of FPC manufacturing problems, development schedules and other constraints, it is not easy to achieve this level of performance, but in the future it is entirely possible to reach 30 levels per minute.
(5) Low cost
In terms of structure, in the case where the components are alleviated, miniaturization and low cost are completely possible. In addition, in the conventional laser printer, the photosensitive drum must be periodically replaced, but on the powder-printed printer, the FPC can be used permanently, so that the turnover capital can be depressed.
Aray's dusting technology
Here is a look at the dusting technology developed by Aray in Sweden. The company's strategy is to use the powder-spraying technology invented by Ove Larson, the founder of 1986, to provide its patent license to printers, copiers and fax machines. At the same time, new developments are protected with new developments and patents including peripheral and complementary technologies. The user is granted the right to use the patented technology and know-how, as well as the trademark use rights of the dusting.
As one of the development bases in Sweden, Aray Japan was established in Yokohama, Japan in 1997. This is an effort to provide services to Japanese users. Among the forty-five of the company's staff, thirty-two are engaged in development research. The current target is a powder-printed color printer with the following performance and characteristics. In 2002, it was commercialized through a patent license.
