Optical anti-counterfeiting technology has many applications in daily life. For example, the light security cable used in the 2015 version of 100 yuan is red in the front view and green in the oblique view. 100" denomination figures; the aerospace commemorative banknotes issued by the People's Bank of China also use a light-changing security line, which integrates a more complex micro-mirror structure to achieve a dynamic effect. The security line is bright and dark, and the light and dark are tilted when the banknote is tilted back and forth. The area moves with it, and it also uses a special structure. The red denomination number "100" and the five-pointed star on the golden background are tilted, and the red area and the golden background become green at the same time.

In 2015, ColorDanceTM (shown in Figure 1), a new optical anti-counterfeiting technology proposed by China Banknote Anti-Counterfeiting Company, won the World Holographic Conference Holographic Technology Innovation Award. Below, the author will briefly introduce the ColorDanceTM optical anti-counterfeiting technology and international related technology.

ColorDanceTM features and benefits

ColorDanceTM combines interferometric light and diffracted light into one, inheriting the mechanism of holography, and is a new technology extended from traditional holographic technology, which can provide more unique optical features. Its advantages over traditional molded holography are:

(1) Natural and stable colors, which can be freely and unrestrictedly defined according to the needs of the product;

(2) Dynamic images of full viewing angle, such as scroll bars or orthogonal motion, images that can move freely in a plane;

(3) The anti-counterfeiting feature has strong adaptability to the light source.

The above features are only required to evaporate a reflective layer (such as aluminum) on the optical microstructure, similar to the conventional embossed holographic process. The so-called color or dynamic characteristics are formed by the optical microstructure itself, without the need for a color-coated coating such as ink.

At the heart of ColorDanceTM technology is the physical model of the microstructure formed by complex calculations and the precisely controlled microstructure (the dimensional error of the structure needs to be controlled within 20 nm). Self-developed microstructure calculation software, optical plate making process and high-quality batch copying process are necessary conditions for realizing this technology. Based on the novel optical security features described above and the harsh process implementation conditions, ColorDanceTM is easier to identify and difficult to counterfeit than traditional holographic anti-counterfeiting technology. The newly developed ColorDance-ShiftTM of the Banknote Anti-Counterfeiting Company combines ColorShift and ColorDanceTM features to take into account the light-changing background and ColorDanceTM's naturally stable colors and their dynamic characteristics.

ColorDanceTM technology can be used in a variety of high-end anti-counterfeiting product platforms, such as security lines, anti-counterfeiting labels, strips, transparent windows and other products in the form of banknotes, in the form of hot stamping labels applied to the card.

International related technical situation

1. Structural color technology of Japan Toppan

Optical anti-counterfeiting technology similar to the features of ColorDanceTM first appeared around 2011. At that time, Japan's Toppan Company realized a new type of optical microstructure based on the advanced processing capacity of electron beam plate making equipment. On this structure, the vapor-deposited reflective layer can form a natural and stable color feature. The technology was named Jewelton. As shown in Figure 2.

However, compared with ColorDanceTM, Jewelton's drawback is that the color characteristics of this technology are static and cannot provide dynamic images, so this feature needs to be integrated with other anti-counterfeiting technologies to ensure its anti-counterfeiting ability. For high-end anti-counterfeiting products, ColorDanceTM has an advantage.

2. Structural color technology of Demax, Bulgaria

At the 2015 World Holographic Conference, Demax of Bulgaria relied on self-developed electron beam platemaking software and processes to propose a static color-stabilized color block feature. Different regions of the butterfly wing samples exhibited were given different colors. . However, this technique suffers from the same shortcomings as Jewelton, that is, the pattern itself still does not provide dynamic images or other novel optical security features, which makes the sample more similar to multicolor prints.

At the 2016 World Holographic Conference, Demax took part in the improved products of the above technology. Although it is still technically impossible to achieve color dynamic text effects like ColorDanceTM, the development of exquisite design and integrated anti-counterfeiting features still impressed the review experts. The exhibiting sample nano-optical components - "Egypt Phantasy" included the 2016 Holographic Technology Innovation Award and the Best Plate Making Award.

The anti-counterfeiting features of the "Egypt Phantasy" sample include:

(1) a two-dimensional background of watercolor colors;

(2) Background texts and patterns composed of submicron-sized optical black structures, such as cats, birds, flowers, etc., are converted into bright colors when tilted;

(3) achromatic three-dimensional portrait of Nefertiti;

(4) An image of a scarab beetle composed of a high quality diffractive lens (upper right corner);

(5) Colorless full-view orthogonal dynamic text "e" (upper left corner).

ColorDanceTM that integrates new laser-reproduced images

According to the latest research progress, the ColorDanceTM microstructure calculation process can combine the coding of the microstructure arrangement to superimpose the laser reproduction features in the ColorDanceTM feature area.

Conventional laser reproduction features inevitably require specific regions to be independently supported, while selected regions cannot make other optical features. If some optical features are forcedly superimposed or synthesized by the microstructure of the laser reproduction features, it will inevitably The mutual interference is formed, so that the quality of each other is greatly reduced. However, ColorDanceTM technology, which integrates new laser-reproduced images, can effectively solve this contradiction by combining the encoding of the microstructures in the microstructure calculation process and superimposing the laser reproduction features in the ColorDanceTM feature area. This breakthrough will make future ColorDanceTM related anti-counterfeiting products more flexible and diverse when selecting laser reproduction features.

ColorDanceTM is distinguished from traditional holographic anti-counterfeiting technology and is more unique and advanced than related technologies at home and abroad. With its own uniqueness and technical ductility, it is suitable for use alone or in combination with other optical anti-counterfeiting technologies such as holography. ColorDanceTM will serve the product platforms such as banknotes, cards and labels in an open manner.
