While digital on-demand printing is gradually coming to market, thermal transfer technology with the same individual characteristics as on-demand printing is also popular because it can print color graphics to paper, etc. according to individual needs. On textiles, ceramics, plastics, metals, label papers and other substrates, the method is simple, the cost is low, and the individuality is strong, which leads the new trend of transfer printing.
First, the characteristics of transfer printing
Transfer printing is to first print a graphic on a carrier to make a transfer material, and then transfer the graphic on the transfer material to the substrate by using a pad printing head, a thermal transfer printer, a transfer printing paper or a transfer printing film. Transfer printing can be performed on a surface of a substrate that is inconvenient to print on a printing press, such as various shapes, formed objects, or soft materials. The image and the text are printed on the intermediate transfer carrier before printing, and then the carrier is transferred to the substrate by special technical means such as heating, wetting, pressing, etc. to form a printed product. According to the transfer printing technology classification, it can be divided into cold transfer printing, thermal transfer printing and pressure transfer printing.
1, cold transfer printing
Can be divided into dry transfer printing and wet transfer printing.
Dry transfer printing: The carrier is generally made of a plastic film, which is pre-coated with a release layer on the film, and then printed on the coating, and then printed with a sticker as a layer of backing. When the transfer printing is pasted on the substrate, the carrier film can be removed.
Wet transfer printing: The carrier generally adopts paper or film, and is coated with a water-soluble release layer in advance, and the backing is printed after printing the graphic, and the adhesive is water-soluble. The water is wetted during transfer and applied to the substrate, and the carrier can be removed.
2, thermal transfer printing
There are mainly sublimation thermal transfer printing, deinking thermal transfer printing, flocking thermal transfer printing, thermal transfer printing and so on.
Sublimation thermal transfer printing: using paper as a carrier, printing with sublimation ink, heating the graphic when transferring printing can be transferred to the substrate. The ink used is formulated from sublimation dyes and is mostly used for transfer printing of synthetic fiber fabrics.
Deinking thermal transfer printing: using paper or film as a carrier, printing with plastic ink, because the ink contains hot-melt binder, generally does not print backing. Heating and pressurizing during transfer printing, the binder melts and bonds with the substrate after the ink layer is heated. When the carrier is removed, the ink layer can be detached from the carrier and transferred to the substrate.
Flocking thermal transfer printing: using paper as a carrier, first pre-coating a layer of hot melt adhesive on the paper, then flocking on the rubber surface, and then using hot-melt ink on the suede surface (actually hot melt adhesive formulated into a solution) ) Printed graphics.
Thermal transfer printing: Simply a process of transferring ink from a ribbon media to paper or film using heat and pressure, primarily for label printing. When the label passes through the printhead and the finale of the printer, the ink is transferred to the label by heat and pressure.
3, pressure transfer printing
For pressure-sensitive transfer printing, the printing carrier is generally coated with a film, pre-coated with a release layer and then printed, and the adhesive is printed with a special pressure-sensitive adhesive as an ink. When transfer printing, the image is transferred to the substrate by pressing the image on the glossy side of the film.
