Digital front end

With the development of digital printing technology, with the shortened demand for delivery cycles and the continuous decline in the number of prints, the proportion of digital printing in the field of packaging and printing is gradually increasing. This article introduces the core technology of digital printing, a key technology that affects printing speed, and hopes to inspire the industry.

Like traditional printing, digital printing also requires the Raster Image Processor (RIP) to convert page description language files (such as PDF) or image files into signals that control the output device so that the digital printing device can follow the page description language. Narrative output file. This is done by converting the page description file into dot matrix information and then controlling the digital press to print.

Because digital printing is non-printing, the printing result of each printing in the printing process requires RIP real-time conversion, calculation and transmission. Especially when the printing content is variable information, the RIP calculation amount will be larger. At present, high-speed inkjet printing equipment must have faster processing speed and more complex color processing capabilities as well as personalized job settings. RIP must have strong processing performance. As the output quality of high-speed inkjet printing technology continues to increase, speed and print format continue to increase, digital front-end functions will gradually highlight their importance throughout the printing system.

Ignition frequency of the nozzle

The ignition frequency of the nozzle is the number of times the inkjet head ejects ink droplets per second, that is, the frequency of ink droplet generation. Generally speaking, with a certain printing accuracy, the higher the firing frequency of the nozzle, the faster the printing speed. However, the working principle of various nozzles is different, and the ignition frequency of the nozzle is limited due to the liquid flow inside the nozzle. For example, the ink droplet generation frequency of continuous inkjet technology can reach 100~300 kHz, ink droplets of inkjet technology on demand. The generation frequency is between 10 and 100 kHz.

Because the droplet formation principles of various nozzles are different, and most nozzles support different levels of multi-gradation printing, the inkjet printing speed is not completely determined by the nozzle firing frequency. The actual consideration should be based on the printing accuracy in a specific X and Y direction and the specific number of gray levels, the maximum printing speed is such that the results are meaningful.

Print head structure

The printhead structure of an inkjet printing apparatus is generally divided into two types, a reciprocating type and a full width type. The reciprocating inkjet print head scans in the width direction of the paper during printing, and each scan completes a certain width of printing. After one line of scanning, the paper is driven by the printer transmission mechanism to advance to the same distance as one print width, and then the nozzle Print until the entire surface is printed.

Reciprocating printing sacrifices the printing speed, but the advantage is low equipment cost, mainly used in fine graphic printing, outdoor printing and other fields. The full-width inkjet printhead is a structure in which a plurality of printheads are arranged to cover the print width of the paper. During the printing process, the printhead is stationary, and the printing material is quickly printed through the printhead. The current high-speed inkjet devices use a full-width printhead structure without any exception, and the number of nozzles used is large, so the equipment price is high. Because the full width structure of the print head contains multiple nozzles, nozzle stitching accuracy, digital image stitching technology, and color consistency between the nozzles will affect the print quality.
