Today's traditional processes are increasingly being replaced by digital workflows, and there are many workflows that use different file formats as data streams. Depending on the data stream format, workflows can be divided into PS, PDF, and 1-bit TIFF workflows. PS, PDF workflow is the workflow before RIP. Its main feature is to imposition PS or PDF files first, then output them into large version of PS or PDF files, and then perform RIP interpretation. PS files are difficult to guarantee in terms of security, and errors may occur during the final RIP interpretation, and troubleshooting and re-imposition will greatly affect work efficiency. PDF files can avoid the problem of garbled characters and image replacement. However, different RIPs have different capabilities for different versions of PDF. It is difficult to fully guarantee the security output at this stage.

TIFF file is the most widely used image file format in digital prepress and printing. In 1992, version 6.0 was released, and 1-bit TIFF file is bitmap bitmap data saved in TIFF6.0 format, ie binary monochrome. Images, therefore 1-bit TIFF files are important applications in the field of digital workflows.

1-bit TIFF working process

The PS or PDF file generated by the front-end layout software is interpreted by RIP to generate a 1-bit TIFF file that satisfies the back-end output accuracy, and is then imposed by imposition software that can accept 1-bit TIFF files. Because the data volume of the file is large, the file usually undergoes some processing before entering the imposition software, forming a low-resolution small file, which is specially used for imposition preview in the imposition software, which can greatly improve the imposition speed. After the imposition is completed, it is output to different output devices as needed, such as digital proofing machine, laser imagesetter, computer direct plate making equipment, etc., and then high resolution files are used to replace low resolution small files to ensure output accuracy.

1-bit TIFF features

1. Safe and reliable

As the data stream of the digital workflow after RIP, the 1-bit TIFF file is generated by RIP, and also records various screening information, including the screen angle, the number of screen lines, etc., graphics, images, texts, etc. formed at the front end. The information is fixed with high resolution dot matrix information and is no longer affected by the post process. Therefore, 1-bit TIFF is known as "digital film", and the workflow of 1-bit TIFF as a data stream is safe and reliable.

2. Ability to detect errors in files in a timely manner

Since the RIP is first applied to the PS or PDF file and then impositioned, the problems in the file can be found in the RIP process, thereby ensuring the correctness of the imposition file.

3. Last minute modification

At the last moment before the output, once a certain version needs to be changed, for the PS, PDF workflow, the entire imposition needs to be re-imposed after the modification; for the 1-bit TIFF workflow, after the modification As long as you replace the wrong version in the imposition software, instead of re-imposing all, you can greatly improve the efficiency of the correction.

4. One RIP, multiple outputs

A 1-bit TIFF file generated by RIP can be output to a variety of devices, such as digital proofing after RIP, with a 1-bit TIFF output server, and a computer-to-plate device is a 1-bit TIFF file. The only acceptable data format.

5. High degree of automation of the workflow

On the surface, the workflow of the 1-bit TIFF process before RIP is more complicated, but in the case of automated workflow, this situation is not felt to the operator, low-resolution small file The generation and output of the large version of the file are automatically performed in the background and do not require immediate intervention by the operator. Therefore, a highly automated workflow can greatly reduce the difficulty of operation and increase the efficiency of production.

The 1-bit TIFF workflow can be divided into two categories, commercial and newspaper, depending on the application. The new printing and the Jinhao RPS workstations are common in the commercial printing field, with the main purpose of solving bookbinding and folding hands; newspaper printing field It is common to have high-tech newspapers and newspapers to solve the high-efficiency imposition of newspapers as the main purpose. The 1-bit TIFF workflow is a good choice for print companies looking for a safe and efficient workflow. With the promotion and popularization of CTP and digital workflows, the 1-bit TIFF workflow will have broader application prospects.

Precautions

Taking into account the characteristics of the 1-bit TIFF file itself, in order to more effectively use the efficiency of the 1-bit TIFF workflow, the following points should be noted when using.

1. Choose the appropriate compression method

The 1-bit TIFF file generated after RIP interpretation has a large amount of data. If it is not compressed, it consumes more storage resources on the one hand, and is not conducive to file transfer on the other hand. The ccitt_group4 compression format can be used to effectively compress files during RIP interpretation, making it easy to transfer files over the network without compromising image quality.

2. Device-related features

A 1-bit TIFF file is a device-related file. Because it records the dot-linearization information associated with the output device, a specific 1-bit TIFF file can only be output to a specific device. For the output mode when transmitting a 1-bit TIFF file off-site, it should be ensured that the linearization information of the dot contained in the file is consistent with the output device, so as to ensure the accuracy of the output dot.
