Researchers at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, under the leadership of Benjamin Dillenburger, have developed a new 3D sand printing technology that can be used for rapid prototyping and material reuse. They used this technology to build an 80-square-meter lightweight concrete slab on the “DFAB House” project, the first component ever built in this way. And a two-layer wooden structural unit was built on this smart board, and the design of the strength and durability of the concrete structure was also made easier. As a highly optimized building component, the intelligent floor slab opens up an interesting world for the future of architectural design without affecting the size of the building and the complexity of the design.
