Metsä Paperboard offers a leading range of classic products with better printability and a lower carbon footprint
MetsäBoard Corporation, part of the Metsä Group, will bring to market an upgraded version of the MetsäBoard Classic FBB series, which will drive the industry forward with unprecedented print quality and a lower carbon footprint.
Known for its consistent quality, stiffness and lightness, as well as its consistent delivery capacity, MetsäBoard Classic FBB is a popular choice for fast-moving consumer goods packaging such as food and health packaging. Thanks to an investment of around 60 million euros in the modernization of the Simpele paperboard mill in Finland, the mill will now further improve the print quality and expand the end application of the paper grade to meet the higher requirements of the printing operations.
"By combining curtain coating and doctor blade coating, the new version of MetsäBoard Classic FBB delivers greater visual consistency and brighter and more vivid images, which we believe will help our customers' products really stand out on the shelves of stores and pharmacies." It ushered in a new era of folding cardboard. Maarten Florizoone, Vice President of Growth for the Folding Cardboard business, said.
89% of the energy used in the production of MetsäBoard Classic FBB at the Simpelle plant is fossil-free, and this proportion is expected to reach 98% by the end of 2025.
"Paperboard is an important part of the products we provide to our customers, so if we don't move forward with our fossil CO2 reduction targets, it will be difficult for our customers to reduce their Scope 3 CO2 emissions and meet their sustainability goals," said Florizo. I think this will set the tone for future developments both inside and outside the company. We need someone to lead the way, and this product will do just that. "
Upgrading work has begun at the Simpelle plant and the construction phase is underway. Once the detailed engineering of the plant has been completed, the technical installation will take place during the planned shutdown maintenance in September 2025. The improved product will be available to customers in October 2025.
