Spot color means that when printing, instead of printing C, M, Y, K four colors, the color is specifically printed with a specific ink. Spot color inks are pre-mixed by the printing house or produced by the ink factory. For each spot color of a print, there is a special color version corresponding to the print. Use spot colors to make colors more accurate. Although the color cannot be accurately represented on the computer, the pre-printed color sample card of the standard color matching system can see the exact color of the color on the paper. For example, the Pantone color matching system creates a very detailed color sample card.
For the non-standard spot color set in the design, the printer does not necessarily accurately allocate it, and the exact color cannot be seen on the screen, so do not use your own defined spot color if it is not a special requirement.
Spot color characteristics
accuracy. Each color set has its own fixed hue, so it can ensure the accuracy of the color in the printing, thus largely solving the problem of color transfer accuracy;
Field. Spot colors generally define colors in solid colors, no matter how light this color is. Of course, it is also possible to add a spot color (Tint) to present any shades of spot colors;
Opacity. The spot color ink is a covering ink which is opaque and can be covered in the field;
The color gamut is wide. The color gamut in the spot color library is very wide, exceeding the RGB color gamut, not to mention the CMYK color space. Therefore, a large part of the color is not available with CMYK four-color printing ink.
Reasons for using spot colors
In color dot printing, the characteristics of spot color inks are often used to select and use them. In general, it is generally used in two situations:
In order to print some visible light colors outside the gamut of CMYK four-color printing ink on the printed matter. The color gamut of CMYK four-color printing ink is obviously insufficient compared with the visible color gamut, and the color gamut of the spot color ink is wider than the color gamut of CMYK four-color printing ink, so it can express many colors other than CMYK four-color ink;
