According to the latest statistics, global polyethylene demand has been growing for many years, but capacity growth is faster, and the situation that capacity exceeds demand is still not going to change much in recent years.

In 1997, the global demand for polyethylene was 42.44 million tons, but the production capacity was as much as 50.52 million tons. In 1998, the demand and production capacity increased to 44.05 million tons and 54.79 million tons respectively, and the production capacity was more than 10 million more than the demand. In 1999, the situation remained the same, with a capacity of 57 million tons and a demand of 46.18 million tons, a difference of nearly 11 million tons. In 2000, the gap further widened, the production capacity increased to 63.2 million tons, and the demand increased to 48.45 million tons. The difference is 14.75 million tons. It is estimated that by 2003, the production capacity will reach 68 million tons, and the demand will reach 57.6 million tons. The gap between the two will reach 10 million tons.

The global demand for LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) was 38.1 million tons in 2000, and will increase to 38.91 million tons and 41.08 million tons in 2001 and 2004. The production capacity will also increase from 28.14 million tons in 2000 to 2001. 29.52 million tons and 34.81 million tons in 2004. The difference between demand and production capacity was the largest in 2000, reaching 9.8 million tons, and will drop to 7 million tons by 2004. In 2000, HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) capacity was 25.12 million tons, and by 2003 it will be 26.94 million tons. At the same time, demand will increase from 20.31 million tons in 2000 to 23.79 million tons in 2003. The excess production capacity was 4.8 million tons in 2000 and 3.2 million tons in 2003.

From various regions, the demand for LDPE in Asia in 2000 was 8.1 million tons, while the capacity was 9.5 million tons. By 2004, the demand and production capacity will increase to 10.2 million tons and 10.3 million tons, respectively, that is, the demand and production capacity are almost the same. . By 2003, the capacity of HDPE in Asia will reach 7.98 million tons, and the demand will increase to 6.6 million tons. Overcapacity will be reduced from 1.7 million tons in 1998 to 380,000 tons in 2003.

North American LDPE production capacity was 10.45 million tons in 1999, 11.53 million tons in 2000, and 11.53 million tons in 2004. The demand for the same period was 6.76 million tons, 7.43 million tons, and 8.45 million tons, respectively. 3 million tons. HDPE capacity was 7.1 million tons in 1998, 7.9 million tons in 2000, and 8 million tons in 2003. The demand for the same period was 5.88 million tons, 6.63 million tons, and 7.47 million tons. By 2003, North American HDPE overcapacity will be reduced from 1.22 million tons in 1998 to 530,000 tons.

The capacity of LDPE in Western Europe was 8.4 million tons in 1999, 8.74 million tons in 2000, and 9.4 million tons in 2004. The demand for the same period was 6.88 million tons, 7.1 million tons, 8.14 million tons, and the overcapacity was 1.6 million. The reduction in tons was 1.2 million tons. HDPE production capacity was 4.62 million tons in 1998 and 5.3 million tons in 2000. It will reach 5.5 million tons in 2003. The demand for the same period was 4.24 million tons, 4.58 million tons and 5.16 million tons respectively. The overcapacity was 400,000 tons respectively. 700,000 tons, 400,000 tons.

In addition, in Central and South America, the LDPE capacity in 2000 was 2.8 million tons, and the demand was 2.5 million tons, a difference of 300,000 tons. By 2004, the capacity and demand will increase to 3.53 million tons and 3.2 million tons respectively, and the difference is still 300,000 tons. . HDPE capacity will increase from 1.06 million tons in 1998 and 1.1 million tons in 2000 to 1.11 million tons in 2003, and demand will increase from 1.75 million tons in 1998 and 2.08 million tons in 2000 to 2.66 million in 2003. Tons, capacity is smaller than demand, and the demand gap will be reduced from 700,000 tons in 1998 to 650,000 tons in 2003.
