The metachromatic ink is a new type of ink with unique anti-counterfeiting function.
Metamerism: We know that each object has its fixed optical properties. Under daylight, the color is fixed, and the inherent spectral parameters of the material are certain. It does not change with changes in external conditions. . Therefore, spectral data is the only and most realistic description of the color of an object.
In the evaluation and description of the color system, the characteristics of the color are often expressed in a three-dimensional coordinate system. That is, the color is described by three basic parameters of color tone, brightness, and saturation. In addition, the reproduction of a color has a certain relationship with the characteristics of the light source for observing the color. Some two substances exhibit the same color under one light source, but under the other light source, they exhibit different colors. It is called metamerism. In order to carry out a standard assessment of this phenomenon, the International Commission on Illumination introduced a metameric evaluation index for evaluating the phenomenon of color cylinder dissimilarity.
Metamerism inks: Metamerism inks are developed based on the principle of metamerism of matter. Under the illumination of daylight, the two metachromatic inks have the same color visual effect, that is, they have the same color feature expression value, but the spectral properties of the two inks are different. The metachromatic ink is a two-color meta-inking ink that uses two pigments with the same color and different spectral characteristics to produce two inks with the same effect and different spectral characteristics. The anti-counterfeiting function of the metachromatic ink mainly depends on the absorption and reflection ability of the pigment which plays a coloring effect on the light.
The anti-counterfeiting effect of the metachromatic ink is obvious and easy to observe. Because it needs to adopt a special pigment series to produce, it has good anti-counterfeiting safety; the metachromatic ink has good durability and stable performance, unlike the decay cycle of fluorescent ink. After a certain period of time, the color development characteristics will not change.
As a metachromatic ink suitable for use as an anti-counterfeiting ink, there are two methods for observing and discriminating. One method is that, according to a pair of metachromatic inks having different spectral characteristics, that is, having different spectral characteristics, the spectra of the two inks can be measured by an instrument for comparative discrimination. The second method is simple and easy, based on the principle that the ink selectively absorbs and reflects light, so that a pair of ink passes through a specific color filter, and one of the inks causes the reflected light to change due to the action of the color filter. At the same time, after passing through the color filter, the ink still absorbs and reflects the original light, and the displayed color does not change. In this way, we can distinguish the true and false of the subject matter by two fixed and different colors.
Application
The use of metachromatic inks is mostly offset printing, which can be printed by color separation or normal printing. The two inks should be printed on the adjacent parts of the substrate to facilitate observation and comparison. Moreover, metachromatic ink can be combined with infrared ink to achieve better anti-counterfeiting effect. The feature of combined anti-counterfeiting is that the visual effects are the same under the illumination of the spectral wavelength of 600-1000 mm, one ink is colored under infrared illumination, and the ink absorbs infrared light to be colorless, and the spectral characteristics of the two are not The same, this can achieve double anti-counterfeiting effect.
In foreign countries, metachromatic ink has been used to print money. At present, there is no practical application in China, and it is necessary to further understand it and play its anti-counterfeiting role.
