The screen is the skeleton for making the printing plate, and it is the base supporting the photosensitive adhesive or the photosensitive film, which directly affects the printing plate performance, printing quality and precision. Knowing the characteristics of the screen and choosing the right screen according to the printing requirements is the primary problem in creating high quality silk screen products. The choice of the screen, in particular, is to determine the type, mesh and number of screens.

1 Types and characteristics of wire mesh

The type of screen should be determined according to the accuracy of the original, the shape of the substrate, and the basic printing requirements. The screens are mainly divided into four types according to their materials, namely, silk, nylon mesh, polyester mesh and stainless steel wire mesh. Each type of screen has its own unique properties (as shown in Table 1) and the specific scope of application (as shown in Table 2), which must be understood in order to make a reasonable choice.
