🖨️ Carbon black for ink is required 🖤 for the printing industry
The printing industry has a lot of requirements for carbon black, which simply means that these conditions must be met: good wettability, easy dispersion, high concentration, good fluidity, high stability and good economy. Specific to different printing methods, the requirements are also different.
Letterpress printing 📜
This printing method requires good ink fluidity, and the carbon black content is between 10%~15%.
Offset printing 📄 on a flat basis
Flatbed offset printing has high requirements for ink, with high tinting strength, blackness and gloss. Both low-structure carbon black and oxidized low-structure carbon black can meet these requirements, and the carbon black content is between 15%~22%.
Gravure printing 🖼️
Gravure printing requires good ink coloring, high gloss, low viscosity, easy flow and dispersion, and no flocculation and precipitation. Both gas black and furnace black can meet these requirements, and the carbon black content is more suitable between 10%~15%.
Water-based inks 💧
Black water-based inks are generally alkaline, so it is best to use alkaline carbon black. However, if the blackness is not enough, you can change to acid carbon black, which can not only improve the blackness and brightness, but also make the ink easier to disperse.
Conductive inks 🔌
Conductive inks require carbon black to have a large DBP absorption value and specific surface area, so that the ink can be both conductive and thickened.
UV inks 💡
UV inks are cured by polymerization initiated by ultraviolet light and photoinitiators. However, carbon black will absorb ultraviolet rays, so it is best to use carbon oxide black with rich polar groups on the surface, which can not only maintain a good dispersion effect, but also ensure storage stability.
In short, the choice of carbon black for ink is a major matter related to the quality of printing, and it must be carefully selected!
