How a Taiwan packaging factory can make the most of Hanhua digital printing to boost profits

In recent years, Taiwanese packaging companies like Xinji Paper Products and Fuli/Fusheng Paper have been steadily pushing the boundaries of digital printing. From various corrugated boxes to customized color boxes, and even brand displays, advertising boards, and event materials, digital printing is gradually evolving from just a production tool into a key weapon for companies to explore new markets.

They're no longer just focused on what the machines can print, but on what kind of business the machines can create. For these companies, digital transformation in production isn't just about improving efficiency-it's about creating new ways to make money.

How Does Digital Printing Turn 'Impossible' Orders into Profitable Business?

Traditional corrugated packaging has long been based on large-scale, standardized production models, where only reaching a certain print volume allows the spreading of plate-making and order-switching costs.

But nowadays, the market logic has changed.

The demand for new product launches, regional exclusives, holiday promotions, e-commerce campaigns, co-branding, and variable data packaging is constantly increasing. These orders are generally scattered, involve many SKUs, require frequent design updates, and have tight delivery times, putting higher demands on production flexibility, quick response, and full-process service capabilities.

For traditional printing, short-run orders mean frequent plate-making and repeated machine adjustments, keeping production costs high. For digital printing, on the other hand, there's no need for plates, order changes are immediate, and production is on demand, turning these previously uneconomical orders into sustainable business.

The efficiency improvements seen in Xinji Paper Products after introducing HanHua digital printing equipment clearly illustrate this change. In the era of traditional water-based printing, two water-based machines had a maximum annual capacity of around 1.5 million sheets, with only slightly over 4 hours of effective working time per day-most time was spent on plate-making, plate changes, ink waste handling, and cleaning equipment. After introducing the HanHua Glory 250X, the same 1.5 million-sheet output could be achieved in just 3 months, with effective working hours jumping to nearly 7 hours per day.

What's really changing isn't just the production process, but the order structure.

In the past, because of high plate-making costs and low efficiency in switching orders, many small orders of a few dozen or a few hundred pieces couldn't be taken at all. Nowadays, even though these orders are limited in print volume, they often come with higher unit prices, more added value, and they help packaging companies open up new profit opportunities.

For more and more packaging factories in Taiwan, the value of digital printing isn't about replacing traditional printing-it's about turning those jobs that used to be "impossible to do" or "not worth doing" into a profitable business.

Shinji Paper Products Digitally Prints Corrugated Cardboard (Glory250X)

Used for Events and Celebrations

How does a packaging factory in Taiwan use digital printing 'deeply and extensively'?

If digital printing helps packaging companies tap into the short-run order market, what really sets them apart is how they use digital printing to continuously develop new application scenarios.

Take Shinji Paper Products, a partner of HanHua, for example. Besides traditional carton manufacturing, in recent years they have been providing brand clients with various event, sports, and marketing materials, like using the Glory250X to print themed backdrops, product display stands, check-in counters, photo spots, POP displays, and in-store displays. From packaging products to event displays, what the company offers is no longer just cartons, but a full set of packaging and display solutions centered around brand activities.

Xinji designed and printed with corrugated paper for its 40th anniversary.

The palm-sized gift box looks pretty plain on the outside,

but when you open it, there's a surprising twist inside.

A similar approach is also reflected in the Elite2504 factory open day jointly held by HanHua and Fuli/Fusheng Paper. From the main visual backdrop and signage system to the product display area and various promotional materials, everything on site was printed by Elite2504. Presenting a complete event scene fully shows that digital printing has long gone beyond traditional packaging applications-using a single device, it can not only produce corrugated boxes, but also quickly handle commercial displays, brand events, and point-of-sale promotional materials, allowing for flexible switching between different uses.

What's worth noting is that these new business areas don't just add a few more products-they give packaging companies more chances to get involved in clients' marketing projects. When clients plan a new product launch, holiday promotions, or brand events, packaging companies are no longer just the last processor to get the order; they can participate earlier in packaging design, display applications, and point-of-sale planning, gradually becoming an important partner in the brand's supply chain.

What digital printing really changes is

the way packaging companies compete.

As digital printing becomes more widely applied, the logic of competition among packaging companies is also changing. In the past, it was about who had bigger capacity and lower processing costs; today, it's about who can respond faster to market demands, develop more application scenarios, and create more high-value-added business using the same production platform.

For packaging companies, the value brought by digital printing isn't just in improving equipment utilization-it's also in optimizing the business structure. New businesses like customized packaging, brand displays, and event materials are gradually becoming important revenue sources beyond traditional transport packaging. They also help companies reduce reliance on long-run orders and establish a more diverse and stable business model.

When a single machine can print boxes and make displays, handle long runs and short runs, packaging companies are no longer just "carton factories"-they gain the power to define the boundaries of their own business. The digital printing practices of Taiwanese packaging companies are sending a clear signal: the true value of digitalization isn't just in the machines themselves, but in how business managers use them to redesign their business.
